Craig Carton @cc660 Twitter Antonio Garay signed with jets. New nose tackle Could the great CC be right? Would be a nice signing.
@cc660: Antonio Garay signed with jets. New nose tackle. Like the signing where will they look next Trenton State Prison football team.
Garay was on our practice squad a few years back but flourished with the Chargers the last few years. He wasn't healthy last year but if he can stay on the field he would be a nice signing to replace Pouha.
Was already a PS player for us before the Chargers snapped him up. Good signing, solid depth for Ellis and Harrison
Schefty just confirmed we have signed Garay to a one year deal. Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter Former Chargers DT Antonio Garay agreed to a one-year deal with NY Jets.
Not yet. Depth is key. For example, look at the WR corps last year. I'd rather see them get depth now, and not sign dudes off the street in week 4 (and have them start). It's not a bad signing.
Which is a good thing. Signing one decent priced starter was not an option with our cap issues. So far we've Gina about it the right way. Bring in cheap short term, low cost vets to fill holes while not handcuffing future years by overpaying for talent. Idzik is trying to set us up to both feild a competitive team, while being able to go off thier board and not fill needs in the draft. So far so good with that kind of plan. We still need one saftey and one OLB.
Oh I understand, I'm just wondering if what the fans are seeing a depth, the FO is seeing as starters. Let me add an EDIT. The whole thing was left a mess, I'm on board with anything they do. I expect a couple of years poor football and am willing to wait it out.
In this case, I think Ellis has the job. As you probably know, interior D lineman that huge are easily injured. Having a quality backup to rotate is key. I don't think Garay will start, but he could if needed. For another thread....BUT, Colon was signed to start.
I dont even think he would be the 3rd NT... Damon Harrison was pretty good in his small time on the field. He's very young with some good upside.
Agree with your statement! I don't think Idzik is looking to field a poor team for 2013 though. I know the Rex haters will disagree, but I think the defense will still be a solid Rex defense. He knows what he is going on that side of the ball, and he will make it work. The offense on the other hand, that's another story for another thread!
Harrison was a bright spot last year, but I'd rather go with Garay as a spot starter if Ellis went down. That said, I think Harrison definitely has a higher upside. DL is really going to be one of the bright spots on this team for years to come.
I understand the cap situation. Roughly 15 mill under right now. I'm confused as to what the plan is here. Were going to field and expansion team next year. I don't really get what there doing. So the jets are looking to dump everyone and sign journyman players to league minimum contracts. I get it, definetly not happy about it
At this rate, it's going to be brutal. But at least Garay's hair will make the provide a little entertainment value for all that PSL money.
