It's good news if he indeed does it, but why does he have to go on social media and announce it? Why not leave other teams wondering what Ulbrich/Sauce will do. I am so tired of stupid ass players running their mouth to the media. I wish that teams could put a total ban on players speaking to the media, and when they on occasion are allowed to speak to the media, there is a very controlled list of things they can talk about.
Right, if he didn't run his mouth the other teams probably wouldn't notice the change until week five or six at least!
Should be a fun season, at least on D! Revis and Sauce have different styles. Revis was great at getting his head around, tracking the ball, and going for the INT. Once in the air, the ball belongs to anybody equally, and Revis felt like it was his to take. Sauce almost never gets his head around. He focuses on staying close to the WR and staring at his hips/hands. Once the hands go up (for the catch), Sauce brings the Hammer to break up the pass. Revis got famous for shutting down the top WR week in and week out. Revis Island was a real thing, as Rex rarely gave Revis safety help. Rex preferred to use that extra defender to bring pressure on the LOS/QB. It will be interesting to see how Ulbrich changes up other parts or our D with Sauce going 1-on-1 with the top WR threat. Will Ulbrich give Sauce safety help over the top? Leave Sauce on a island? Blitz more? Maybe Sauce will play man on the #2 WR on a island while Reed and Tony Adams double team the #1 WR? It'll be fun to watch the chess match every week. Go Jets!!!

Not sure how that’ll work in a stubborn cover 3 run by Saleh and Ulbrich. It’s like running a 2-3 zone in basketball but telling one of the “2’s” to run into the others zone if the guy runs there leaving a massive gap on the other side. Sauce can certainly do it though.
Basketball is actually not a great analogy because "Box-and-1" does exist. One defender playing man to man on the opponents best threat while everyone else plays zone. I dont think a hybrid approach like that would work though in a defensive secondary, maybe, idk I'm a little weak on coverage principles. I think most likely Sauce just means he wont be stuck on one side. They will still play a cover 3 but he will flip with the other cornerback as needed -- Honestly, I'm not sure I want Sauce Gardner trying to play like Revis Island, aka man-to-man on the opponent's best wideout. Sauce is grabby and a plan like that sounds like lots of holding and PI flags to me
I thought about that too because they were just talking about when the Raptors did box and 1 to Steph Curry. Fair to the bold and that’s probably what they meant. We didn’t really get killed anywhere on the outside too badly other than against the Dolphins when Reed got cooked. If I’m remembering correctly, we got beat up the most when teams just had their guys find the open holes in the zone over the middle (Cowboys, Bills game 2, Commanders when Brissett came in). That’s why flipping Sauce’s side sounds cool but it doesn’t help us where we’re weakest.
Sauce can play that role fine, he's just not the same type of cover man that Revis was. Revis would physically dominate them all over the field (and he was pretty grabby himself, he just got away with it better. ) What Sauce has that Revis didn't is insane length and superhuman recovery ability when he's almost beaten, plus a really natural instinct for anticipating the path of the ball and getting his hand in the way. Sauce reads the defender and he's good enough at it that he gets away with not turning his head, but I can see where some of those could have been PIs. I say all this with a half expectation that he eats his own hype and turns into a bum. Because Jets.
