No surprise here based on what Rex was hinting at...so I am "assuming" that the labral tear will be treated non-surgically...did they talk about that?
Mark isnt going to start this season unless Geno shits the bed and loses the next 6 games. This is just to open a roster spot, correct?
Jets lose the next 6 the next 6 games and Sanchez won't start regardless. The Jets will either ride Geno out to see if the play steadies by seasons end or try out Matt Simms, the season would be lost at that point. Personally I think Idzik see's this as a rebuilding and evaluation year. Personally I think Rex stays next year. But that's just a hunch.
Exactly. We know what we've got in Sanchez, and he's honestly a waste of a roster spot right now. We have to see if Geno is capable of being the guy. If it's a total disaster, might as well see if Simms offers any hope. Need to see if we have to take another QB early in next year's draft. To add, as bad as the fourth quarter was this past game, I've been surprised with Geno. He's looked a lot better than I expected, but I'm definitely not sold yet.
Geno is plenty capable of being the guy.. Dude is a leader with a great attitude.. Looked great Thursday night besides the 4th quarter.. I won't hold that against him since he was going up against one of the greatest coaches and one of the greatest QBs to ever play the game in their house in Genos second ever NFL start.. Kid is going to be a stud.
Sanchez can return November 17th at Buffalo but I see no way he returns as starter. If the Jets are (3-6) by then, the season is over. Let Geno continue. If the Jets are (6-3), obviously Geno got on track and can't be yanked after 9 starts.
Dark Knight, I think you have it figured out pretty much to a T. The way things are now it wouldn't make sense to play Sanchez. I don't think Sanchez will start another game for the Jets. It just doesn't make sense unless Geno / Simms gets injured.
Idzik prob wants to see what he has in a Sanchez with oc MM. I wouldn't be surprised if Mark plays IF he does eventually come back.
This may be true. Though, you have 0 clue and if you are right, it is purely inadvertently so. Idzik used the team's 1 available short IR slot on Sanchez. He has stated that he intends to get Mark back on the field as soon as possible. Why would someone go to this great length of verbal affirmation of illusions if he truly had no interest in seeing what Mark has to offer this team? In my opinion, the likelihood of some clandestine operation seems miniscule. What purpose would it serve? Why not simply IR him for the remainder of the season?
This is just a guess but I'm thinking the IR designation was made because the Jets don't want to look bad if they're somehow still in the playoff race in November and Geno goes down with an injury. Having to play Matt Simms or Brady Quinn for the rest of the season from a 5-4 position would likely end the slim playoff chances with no return gained. If you're picking between Geno Smith and Mark Sanchez in a rebuilding year it is an easy call. If you're picking between Mark Sanchez, Matt Simms and Brady Quinn in a playoff drive it's also a pretty easy call. You're probably screwed with any of them but at least Sanchez has played in November and December in a tight playoff race.
I definitely think it's a case of the Jets wanting to keep their options open come December, and if Sanchez is healthy, he's an option. But I'd rather see Matt Simms if Geno goes down than Mark Sanchez coming off torn labrum rehab and no playing time since August.
This idea seems 1,000 times more reasonable than the idea that the Jets just prefer to waste everyone's, including Mark's, time by BS'ing there way through his injury. Also, what is with the Matt Simms infatuation? I do not understand it. Does he have some track record of success? Do the scouts rank him highly as a potential starting QB?
I'm not at all infatuated with Matt Simms, but I'd rather see the guy who flashed in preseason get the call over the historically inaccurate, turnover-prone guy coming off a major shoulder issue.
The reason you don't IR him for the whole season is because this is football and players get injured, duh. If genii gets injured we have Matt sims who is unproven and not as good as Sanchez, plain and simple. He will be a backup the rest of the year unless geno gets hurt which in that case you have to play Sanchez. I see no problem in drafting a qb high in next years as we don't have much invested in geno as he is only a second round pick. If we have the opportunity to draft a qb we do and have an open competition next year with some young trade bait for the following year.
Buddy do you even understand what the Jets management was, is, and continues to say regarding the QB position??? If they were so confident in Geno, Sanchez could've been A- Released OR B- Put on season ending IR They continue to say that its open competition, between who??? Stop fantasizing, and get with the program BUDDY.
