http://www.prosportsdaily.com/comments/jets-sanchez-getting-right-knee-checked-out-322129.html "There was a Mark Sanchez sighting Tuesday night, and it wasn't in New York, New Jersey or California. The Post learned last night that Sanchez was in Birmingham, Ala., to have his right knee examined by renowned orthopedist, Dr. James Andrews. It's believed Sanchez -- who suffered a sprained posterior cruciate in his right knee in the Jets' 19-13 win over the Bills on Dec. 3 in Toronto and missed a game -- was seeing Andrews to have it checked out in case any surgery needs to be done. It's not known whether Sanchez will have any offseason surgery, though if he did it wouldn't likely be anything major. Considering how well he played once he returned to the lineup, any potential surgery likely would be a minor procedure to clean up the knee. Sanchez, in fact, performed at his best during the Jets' playoff run and he threw some of his best passes while on the move. In the Jets locker room on Monday as the players cleaned out their lockers, Sanchez moved about with no perceptive limp."
Hopefully he's just going in for an advisory opinion. I never like hearing about Jets QBs going to visit Andrews.
Got some insider info out of Birmingham that is totally illegal to have or spread, however, Sanchez is fine. No major issue with his knee, something about a minor cartilage issue that will bug him later in life but not now. Gotta love southern towns. Everything is everybody's business.
As far as I know, there is only one orthopedic surgeon on the entire planet, and his name is James Andrews. Dude must sleep on a bed of money. Story sounds totally precautionary. I think Rex and the coaching staff handled his injury very will, IMO. You look at a guy like Stafford, the only hope for Detroit in the last decade, throwing a game winning touchdown pass with a bum shoulder for absolutely no reason... thank god we're not the Lions.
http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/jets/sanchez_cig_nature_tC4LcPEnM9L1ENeOfSjYnI "While in Birmingham, Ala., to see orthopedist Dr. James Andrews, Mark Sanchez took a little time out Tuesday night to see some music at a club in town called "The Nick." The band Sanchez watched was a Brooklyn-based group called "Her & Kings County." He signed some autographs, and eyewitnesses said they saw Sanchez smoking a cigarette at the place." No big deal? Or cause for concern? I know its just one cigarrette, but it's the offseason and I'm already tired of hearing about the Saints v. Frankenstein.
Lol, I don't think he's stupid enough to smoke a cigarette in public. I don't believe it if there is no pictures though. I mean, who doesn't have a camera phone now? Anyway, if Sanchez does smoke, it didn't look like it affected his play at all.
I'd love it if he smoked a cig on the sidelines, fuck hot dogs that'd be hilarious. Players should be allowed, they're outdoors after all. Smoking will make him age faster, the Surgeon General even says so-
Another article with an extra blurb about it just be a precautionary move for both knees. Better to know whats going on and nip any problems in the bud...glad to see him on top of things. http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2010/01/ny_jets_qb_mark_sanchez_visits.html NY Jets QB Mark Sanchez visits orthopedist James Andrews to examine right knee By Dave Hutchinson/The Star Ledger January 28, 2010, 11:15AM Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez visited noted orthopedist Dr. James Andrews on Wednesday to have his right knee examined, The Star-Ledger has confirmed. The person who confirmed the report requested anonymity because he is not authorized to speak publicly for Sanchez or the Jets. Sanchez suffered a sprained posterior cruciate ligament in a 19-13 victory over the Buffalo Bills in a Week 13 game in Toronto when he made an ill-advised head-first slide. The exam is a precaution as Sanchez finished the season strong and showed no ill-effects of the injury. Sanchez will likely have his left knee examined as well. He injured that knee in college. The trip to Birmingham, Ala., to see Andrews was first reported by The New York Post.
Every time there's a leg injury in NY, as soon as you hear that they're going to Dr. Andrews, everyone has a heart attack.
It's just a precaution. The Mets should be ran like the Jets. If they were, maybe Beltran would have had this surgery in October.
Kid had a problem with the knee in the season -> Kid sees an orthopedic at the end of the season... nothing to be worried about, I'm cool with that
good to see that hes getting good advice and taking care of these things. going out to the czar of orthopedic surgery and getting your knees checked as a precaution is a sound move to make sure if something has to be done, its done now so you dont miss time. rhodes and revis also made tweets during the week aobut getting checked out to make sure there are no problems. its good to see these young guys care about staying healthy and on the field.
The last thing you want is for the knee to get blown out next year because no one saw the early signs. No reason NOT to get it checked out, especially with all the money we're on the hook for with him, not to mention our collective sense of self worth
Hopefully the Jets get him together with a good prosthetic orthopedist and find a set of braces he can live with for the long-term. The amount of trouble he's had with his knees so far suggests this is a chronic problem and will not get better. The clear answer in that situation is to find him a good set of braces and avoid the critical injuries that will otherwise likely cut short his career. Knees never get better as you age and are subject to catastrophic failure once underlying weakness sets in.
