What is sanchez exact contract situation next year? Is he due another 8 mill or is the last season of that? I'm curious.. while at times I been happy with some of the things geno smith has done. On a whole he been awful, he steadily getting worse each week, to the point it's embarrassing having him out there.. I just see his rapid decline leading to the door opening back up to sanchez getting another shot with the jets. I know it sounds crazy and after week one and seeing geno do some good things, I thought for sure sanchez would never play here again. Watching smith past couple weeks. I may be very wrong about that. As much as sanchez made me sick at time. As sick as geno has made me lately. No shot he's any worse than genos been this year. Rex loves him and his refusal to bench smith will only lead to more embarrassing games like today, opening the door for Rex to claim sanchez is worh another look at the end of the season. Its insane we can never find a quality qb anywhere.. next year will probably draft another one.
Lol not saying I want it.. I'm just asking.. I see some bizarre shit happening with this debacle of an organization.
I wouldn't draft a QB. This team needs a vet QB, a true number 1 receiver, some depth on the oline, and maybe a OLB and a safety. I would sit Geno and let the vet start (Cutler) and then in 2 or 3 years when it's time to move on, you go back to Geno and hope he's ready to step up.
Next year is suppose to be a very deep draft at qb. I don't follow college football at all. So I don't know whose worth a shot.
This has been discussed I other threads. If you don't want to draft a QB you need to bring I a veteran. Sanchez played well enough in pre-season to believe this offense really suits him . Bring in some skill players via the draft and free agency and let mark and geno compete. If the biggest complaint about the jets is skill players around Aqaba bring in the skill players and let the QB prove that was the issue. So no matter what you have to drop money on a veteran... Is Sanchez worse than anyone they would bring in?
This is what the start Geno Smith no matter what crowd is missing. Mark Sanchez is under contract to be one of our quarterbacks next year. Why would we cut Sanchez if no one else on the roster has demonstrated that they can be a starting quarterback in the NFL? If Geno lit it up (he clearly hasn't) then you can tell Sanchez to take a pay cut or GTFO. If Simms gets a shot and it looks like he and Geno could have a healthy competition next year you might still be able to dump Sanchez. If Geno is not playing well and Simms is so bad that he can't be trusted enough to bench Geno than you would at least want to keep Sanchez around as a backup. Just because our defense is playing better than last year does not mean that we have moved on from Mark Sanchez.
What gives me the shivers is the news drops that start sometime next June. It will begin with a story about how Mark Sanchez has "a renewed passion for the game" and has "worked like never before." And, of course, not to leave out, how he's in "the best shape of his career." Then, after the first week of training camp, some unnamed Jets source will tell us all how Sanchez has outplayed Geno. Then he'll have a decent two quarters in the second preseason game. We'll all debate whether or not it was against "quality defensive starters." Geno will be up. Geno will be down. That occasional "Jets source" will keep throwing gas on the fire. Game 1 arrives. Geno will throw for 202 yards with 2 interceptions, 1 touchdown and 1 fumble. Monday morning press conference begins. Someone asks about "what it will take before you decide to a switch quarterbacks." Rex announces "complete confidence in the quarterback position" - which really means nothing, but it's something to say. Saturday morning, my family finds me swinging from a lamp cord in my garage.
Geno is a couple years away (if he makes it at all) from beating Sanchez out in a fair contest. Sanchez will be the starter if we keep him.
