The only reason to offer him a contract now is to try to lowball him into a contract that would be beneficial if he were good, but easy to get out of if he is bad. I don't think Sanchez or his agent will take anything like that. Hope springs eternal, and deep down inside Mark might be dying to get out from under Shotty and away from the clusterfuck of a revolving door at wide receiver. Pete Carroll is on the west coast near Mark's family...Sanchez could also probably start on 5 to 10 NFL teams over their penciled in 2012 starters. I think the best thing for both the team and for Sanchez is to play out next season and see what happens. We should bring in a viable backup in the offseason. If Sanchez has a better year, then we pay him and he deserves it. If he doesn't, then the organization weighs what is out there versus paying him. It's the same as the Cromardie/Asomungah situation in my mind. Cro might not have been the first choice, but he was the best choice after Aso and the other high profile corners were off the market.
"gassed"? come on. whatever the reasons they blew the 14 pt lead. stats lie sometimes, our D cost us more than the O this year especially since we are more reliant on the D.
Of our 8 losses: D primarily responsible for: Oak both NE games O primarily responsible for: Miami Baltimore shared: Den NYG Philly
You are less reliant on Sanchez, so it's less his fault? This isn't sound logic. Just because the defense was worse than expected, it doesn't mean your defense is more at fault than the offense. Especially when talking about where to spend your money in the offseason and in the future.
One of the NE games I would disagree with because one game we either drove for a TD or had a 3 and out. That is unacceptable. Thankfully you put Denver was in both, I can't believe people have been killing Sanchez for that game but overlooking the D
no, no extension yet. i'm not interested in lowballing our qb. make him earn his next contract and pay him fair market value if he proves that he's capable of carrying this team. and please stop bringing up brees and eli in these conversations. they are very different qbs. their success has no bearing on mark sanchez. it would be like saying mcelroy has a chance to be great because tom brady has been successful.
Guys with numbers as good as Rivers don't get run out of town. Look at Romo - he plays in a bigger pressure cooker and insanity show than even the Jets, and yet he's clearly their franchise guy, no matter how often he comes up small in a big spot. Guys with passer ratings and yardage numbers like those guys don't get kicked out of the curb anywhere.
Sure it does, our D was expected to be a legit top 5 D, it wasn't a top 10 D. That will throw a wrench into a season. at NE we scored to cut it to 6 w/ over 7 mins to play. Can the D get a stop? Nope, they allow NE to go on a 6 min drive and kick a FG to end the game. at home vs. NE we scored on the first play of the 4th qtr to cut it to 7. Can the D get a stop? Nope, they allowed NE to hold the ball for 7 mins and score a TD. That's b/c fans get duped by meaningless fantasy #s. I'd rather have a guy w/ lesser #s that coms through when it matters most than the opposite. There are many supposed top QBs that melt under playoff pressure unlike Sanchez.
Winning the games you need in order to make the playoffs are just as important as playoff games. If you lose a playoff game, you go home. If you don't win the regular season games you need, you go home. Those last 3 games were just as important as playoff games.
they were important but they weren't playoff games and we would have needed to score 50 to beat Philly. That tome was set by the D, the D played bettre the next 2 weekas but allowed 2 backbreakling drives- the first one wasn't a drive but the 99 yd TD. That was a soul crusher, the 2nd was the 94 yd drive to Matt Moore. Sanchez and the O needed to play better but we needed to in all phases.
I don't understand your thinking. If you control your destiny with a few games to go, the playoffs start then. Failing in those games is exactly the same as failing in the playoffs. You end up in the same place when you lose. At home. The D deserves some blame, but the O put the D in bad spots all year. The Eagle game would have been totally different if not for the O putting us in a 7-0 hole to start the game. The D failed in big spots, but the O was worse.
Funny we say the same thing here about how the Pats will continue to not win anything with the worst D in the league.
Funny how the worst two defenses in the NFL are the #1 seeds in each conference with a combined record of 28-4.
Let me get your opinion on something. Do you think Brady was responsible for the Pats winning games in their 1st SB run? Because his stats were worse than Sanchez, yet Brady gets all the credit in the world for winning that SB. No one said that Sanchez was the sole reason for the Jets success in those 4 wins, but if you think he wasn't a big part of it then you sir are delusional (spell check is your friend). He has the 4th highest QB rating in the history of the postseason. He completely outplayed Brady last year and helped the offense put up 28 points, tossing 3 touchdowns and a QB rating of 127+. He put the Jets in position to win against the Colts on the last drive of the game (similar to how Brady won the SB vs the Rams). He also played great against the Steelers, too bad our defense didn't show up that game. He also put up solid numbers vs the Bengals. The Charger game was his shit playoff game, yet put them ahead with a go ahead TD in the 4th quarter, before Greene put the game away. So going through all those games, to say he wasn't a part of the Jets postseason success those 2 years, is delusional. I agree most of the credit should go to the D, but the offense still has to put up points, which Sanchez had a hand in.
Won't argue that. Pats fans said the same thing last year and got whooped in the playoffs as the 1/2 seed (forget which). The Pats had the lowest SOS this year, so I'll wait and see how they play against a legit offense. All year your D has been torched, yet you escape games by winning by less than a TD against bad teams. What happens when you play good teams with a solid defense and can't score 21+? (see Pitt, NYG)
