Brady against the Jets D versus Sanchez against the Patriots D. Apples and oranges. You can continue to hold onto Sanchez, be my guest. But from a Jets perspective, he isn't helping. Unless your defense turns into the 2000 Ravens or the Tampa Bay SB championship defense next year, the Jet's have no chance.
The same Jets D that got gashed the year before by Manning(a much better Jets D) and a week later by Pitt(though that was more on the ground). You don't get to back to back title games w/o quality QB play especially w/ an overrated D like ours. It's been proven we can win big w/ him, let's fix the OL and see what happens.
Fair enough, but Brady did sit for a few years or was he a rookie? (I dont know) I think it makes a big difference. When you said he single handedly put them in position, weren't both big catches a lot of YAC? Again I don't remember this, it was a while ago. I agree if they play poor the chances are slim to none. The only playoff game I would say Sanchez played poor in would be the Colts the second time around, only the first half though. He hasn't held the team back when it comes to playing in the playoffs, but he has held them back in getting home field advantage. And of course you guys are a big problem too. 9-7/10-6 won't get it done with Bill and Brady there.
to be fair the 2010 d was built to beat manning/brady the 09 d just didn't have the horses in the secondary
Typical Jet fans happy with mediocrity. Sanchez has done nothing to even sniff a second contract. If anything, he should be taking a pay cut for how awful his play has been in 3 years. You dont reward bottom of the league QBs. After the QB play we've all seen since hes been here, some of you must be high on something to even want to see him extended at this point in time. It will become a huge reality check too, when he sucks next year with a different OC and sets this franchise back once again....
It is ludicrous to sign Sanchez to a substantial second contract when he has done NOTHING to merit it. A journeyman could perform better than him and we could use the money elsewhere.
Brady sat his rookie year (2000) behind Bledsoe and started the 3rd game of the 2001 season after Lewis knocked the crap out of Bledsoe. There were 2 catches by Redmond in that final drive that had YAC (he did a great job getting out of bounds). Brady's big throw of the drive was a 23-yarder down the middle seam to Troy Brown which basically got them in FG position.
To be honest, the defense carried the Patriots in his first SB. For what it's worth, the 2011 Patriots set the record for YAC. There is something to be said for putting your receivers in position to succeed. It also helps having an elite TE and one of the best YAC WR's in the league.
the '09 secondary was better than the '10 secondary. If mediocrity is reaching the ttile game 66% of the time I am happy w/ mediocrity. Jet fans act like we have had the '85 Bears defense.
At this point, there's very little to discuss. If he's willing to accept a McNabb/Fitzpatrick-type contract that we can still easily get out of after 2013, then great. But I see no reason to sign him now. Let 2012 play out, then see what you want to do. No reason to extend him now, unless you create a cap-friendly deal which we can get out of easily. Come to think of it, if we can do that, and they are still really sold on Sanchez as the future, you can probably get him discounted now. But that would be a tough PR sell.
Yeah someone else said Brady single handedly put the Pats in posistion to win the Super Bowl on the last drive, but I wasn't so sure about that. I was responding to that, not trying to discredit Brady.
The "overrated d" is still miles ahead of the offense. They may not of been as good as the last few years but they are still top 10 statistically...
Also, in the 1st half, the Pats DB's physically knocked the crap out of the Rams WR's at the LOS not allowing them to quickly get into their patterns. In the 2nd half, Rams WR's got off the LOS and into their patterns more quickly.
Agreed with this all around. No need to do it right now, but next year we will have to make a choice. If we keep Schotty, things get more complicated if nothing improves. If Schotty, goes next year we can really see what we have. It will be an interesting year.
