It has to be said Same Old Jets are dead!!! You can call it premature or you can say they're not but this team has had two huge oppurtunties for the SOJ to show up and last week they buried it and last night they stomped on the grave. We always struggle in Buffalo and last year was a perfect example of that yet we dominated them from whistle to whistle, last night we had a HOF QB that was starting to get hot in a desperate near must win game in pooring rain and when our offense didn't play their best and gave the Vikes a chance to steal it yet we made the big play when we needed it. I am a harsh critic of this team and always waiting for the other show to drop but I don't think it's going to. This entire franchise has changed over the course of 1 1/2 years and it starts with Rex. This team is a walking image of him, the swagger, the confidence and the fun. Sanchez could not have been a better fit. Even though he didn't play his best he is playing at a very high level. We are no longer relying on that one guy, in the past it was Martin, Chad, but everybody on the team is capable of making plays and winning games. Look at the play of Drew Coleman (who unfortunately got hurt), the fact that Jason Taylor has not only bought into the system but is playing very well, LT has resurected his career and looks similar to a 2005 LT, we haven't even gotten the Greene Machine going yet and our OL is looking very good once again. Say what you want about last night's coaching but we had every oppurtunity to lose a game that we should have won and we didn't inspite of poor decisions and bad weather. There are people that will never be happy but this team is not only very good, but well coached and looks to be a very real threat to make some noise come December and playoff time.
It's funny, I don't feel good about this win in terms of the D still struggling and the dropped balls, bad calls by the staff, etc.. But they still found a way, good teams find a way. Brad Smith, kudos to him, that kick return was such a huge play. One thing you can say, that running game is still there, and dare I say, better than last year.
I always feel good about a win especially when it was one that we very easily could have lost. The Vikings are a very good team with a very good defense. Our OL dominated them in the run game and we didn't even really commit to it. I just think the SOJ lose last night. They were so much better then the Vikings in nearly every facet of the game that the score wasn't even close to how much we dominated that game. A few huge plays by the Vikings and some dam thunderstorm were all that seperated this from a 31-10 win.
SOJ has been dead for about 13-14 years, there will always be devastating losses and I'm sure we'll see them again but SOJ died a long time ago.
Yes it is easy to forget the Vikings were 13-3 last year and legitimate Super Bowl contenders. The Jets beat a solid team, a desparate team. Let's give kudos to Brick as well, shutout Jared Allen, and I mean nothing for him but a few tackles. Get that secondary shored up, get Holmes and that passing game some more reps together and look out.
I agree, Brick was everybit a pro bowl LT last night. I think once Revis gets his act together this is going to be a very very good defense. When the best player on your D is missing time or not 100% it's going to take the rest of the D some time to catch up.
i am as SOJ as the next guy and when it was 15-13 i was cursing up a storm and pacing inside and outside of the house....everyone was already sleeping so the dog bore the brunt of it..... that being said - after 30+ years of SOJ accumulation i cannot fully declare it....yet. i have seen 3 jet AFC championship game cluster fux and need to see that rectified with the next one - whether thats this year or 10 years from now. jil
This team made me feel genuine feelings. The whole time towards The Vikes surge at the end of the game, I never felt nervous. They pull within 2 points, and I'm like -- We still have them beat. That lack of anxiety is never something I've experienced while watching this team. Which is a pretty good thing, when you have to wake up in the morning. I think Rex's swagger and confidence extends beyond the team to even envelop the fans. Now, That is REAL ULTIMATE POWER! NOW LETS GET SOME FUCKING SNACKS!
The only time I had some doubt was the atrocious clock management at the end of the game. I said something like we are going to lose and I am gonna be sick over it. That being said when Ellis jumped offisde I nearly broke something but they found a way not to lose a game in which they allowed a team they dominated get back into it. If we execute last night on O this game isn't even close.
Agreed, that irked me some. Basically a free timeout for Minny. And in the past, that may have resulted in a hurling of the remote control, or whatever was in closest proximity to my throwing arm. But I felt a strange calm last night, perhaps it was the heavy rain -- that really didn't seem to effect our game play too much. Farge, on the other hand, just couldn't hold onto the ball -- Slippery snaps, and errant throws. Maybe Sanchez really does have the best hands on the team lol.
It has to be said This was already said last year, how many times can it die? I agree though the shit is dead.
I have to say that this year's team has me closer to shedding the SOJ than I can remember, but I'm still in Jil's camp at the moment. I see Champ hasn't weighed in yet, but if he does, he'll probably agree with me on this one: Win me another SB and then I'll bury the SOJ. Until then, I still curl up in the fetal positon when I think of all those SOJ seasons. Win me a SuperBowl. That's what it takes for me. Nothing short of that gets the bad taste out of my mouth. Win the big one... go all the way. I'm starting to buy in, dare I say, but 4-1 isn't even close to shedding the SOJ for me yet.
If you don't feel good about this win there is something wrong w/you. We just beat the Vikes on MNF. HUGE WIN!!!! Not sure what some people expect, but the Jets aren't going to steamroll opponents and win games against quality opponents by large margins. That isn't how the NFL works. The Vikes a damned good team and they showed that last night. The Jets played good enough to win and that is all that they have to do. Were there Mistakes? Are there Areas for improvement? Absolutely. That is football. The Jets are far from perfect - and so is every other team in the NFL. The good teams are the ones that improve week to week and that is what the Jets have been doing - improving every week. It shows that the Jets have excellent coaching and having a solid group of talented players who are dedicated to improvement and winning. There is no reason to be anything other than psyched !!! The Jets are 4-1 Baby !!!!
The Vikings made more atrocious mistakes than the Jets did. That's about all I take away from that kind of game. How do you put up a buck 50 on the ground against the Vikes defense the first time in a million games and still throw forty times in shitty weather? If it was Herm/Hackett on the sidelines last night, they'd be getting crucified for how that game played out, and rightfully so. Still a win is a win, but the Jets are getting very lucky.
Bingo... people can say it was dead last year but how many games did we piss away? I haven't felt this confident about the Jets since 1998 and that's about the only time I have ever felt we should win every game we walk out onto the field. I have no doubt that this is one of the top 2 or 3 teams in the NFL and I like the way we match up with Pittsburgh. The good news is the Pats still have games aganist Pitt, Minny (who will have a very fired up Moss) and Baltimore. The Ravens scare me and I will never dismiss the Colts as long as they have Manning but they are human this year.
