They tease you to death, 5-3 going into the buy I think not. Go ahead all you guys sayine we are gonna make a playoff push! I know this team was flawed going into the season, but I had my hopes up!
This is what I find annoying. Everyone is so negative at the beginning of the season, and all of a sudden we are a playoff team. I think we all need to take it one game at a time.
What Abyzmul said. Every Jet's fan should be on their knees thanking whoever they thank from that position that the Jets are gonna be at least 4-4 at the midseason point. If we win 9 or 10 games it'll be a gift from the gods, because no team in the NFL, parity or no, should be able rebuild the offensive line, switch to a new defensive system and bring a new mainstay RB online and do that. Not to mention every pass Chad completes is one more than the odds say he should have thrown in his career after three serious injuries.
I honestly expected people starting threads about draft position by this time. They have exceeded my expectations and make me think that once the defensive personnel woes are fixed and the O-line gets better and is upgraded in areas, the New York Jets will be a very difficult team to beat.
I agree but 5-3 with NE and CHI next is a whole world of difference than 4-4 and looking at 4-6. At 5-3 with a weak schedule would be a "hey you never know".
If you give the Jet's no chance to win either of the New England or Chicago games then 5-3 or 4-4 makes no difference in terms of playoffs. That Jets wouldn't make them from 5-5 anyway. December is still to come and it's a cruel month to marginal Jet's teams, not to mention Chad's throws are looking awfully butterfly like to still be worth much in the cold winds of late November and December.
Being a rebuilding team is not an excuse for losing winnable games. I don't expect the Jets to be able to go out and beat teams like the Patriots or the Colts (which to their credit they almost managed to do) but they are a better team than Cleveland. They've proven all season that they are better than the Browns, and losing to them is bad no matter what our expectations going into the season were.
Funny, you talk like you are used to the Jets winning the games they were supposed to. I think it has been a treat in a rebuilding year winning so many more winnable games than we have been used to in the recent past. I expected them to win today, too, but after each win or loss I can stand back and give it a healthy perspective and realize how impressive or unimpressive the team has been considering their circumstances. There have been teams that have been better than the Jets and lost. If the Bills had run McGahee all day like the Browns ran old What's-His-Name, they would have killed us. We were outcoached today by Mangini's old boss, but not impressively. Both teams are in a state of flux, and I expected a loss this week. Trap games and all that. Both offense and defense came out of the tunnel flat. They were unprepared. That's somehow a rookie mistake by the HC, and his coordinators by extension, but really, didn't you expect some of that this year?
The organization pretty much took a knee for the season by going to the 3-4 with the personnel that they had. There is no way they believey that the defense would be effective this season. I am happy with 4-4 and the fact that the Jets have been had a good chance of winning 6 of the 8 games they played. The team definitely doesn't quit.
Did you really expect Pennington to be the worst player on the field against Cleveland? We ran the ball well, we had great special teams play, the D stepped up at the end of the game and made stop after stop. The OL blocked well. Last play was tough but no way do I or any Jet fan expect Pennington to self destruct that way against a bad football team. This schedule coupled with a healthy Pennington was the gift from the Gods not the possability of winning 9 or 10 games.
Too true. And for everyone chalking up NE and Chicago as sure loses, why bother hoping for the playoffs? If you can't beat the elite, what's the point of making the playoffs only to get bounced in the 1st round? This is the 2006 NFL. Nothing is a lock. There's no reason the Jets can't "steal" one of these games.
Pennington's effectiveness has been on the decline for weeks, he is regressing and it looks like it's affecting his awareness of the play's development. I don't know if it's injury or mental, but it's happening.
But for everyone of these, after a win there is a stupid thread about possible super bowl contenders. These just annoy you more.
Grasshopper, someday you will achieve the mighty 10,000 mark and be able to post pictures of your naked butt-cheeks with impunity. Like me.
Again, just because I didn't expect the Jets to be good this year means that they should get a free pass for blowing a winnable game. Accepting responsibility for failure is the best way to succeed in the future. Saying "we may have blown an opportunity to go 5-3 but it's OK, because it's a rebuilding year" doesn't accomplish anything. It's fine for us to say it, but I hope to God that's not what the coaching staff is saying to the players.
