Because teams didn?t spend as much as they were supposed to under the collective bargaining agreement the past three years, teams were notified Wednesday that the salary cap will increase over $4 million to $127 million for this coming year, according to sources with two NFL teams. The collective bargaining agreement calls for cap adjustment down if teams spend over the cap in cash and adjustment up if they don?t spend up to the cap. It defies the recession and logic, but just before free agency, teams actually will have more flexibility and salary-cap room. This is tremendous news for teams such as the Colts and Panthers, who are pressed against the cap, and not such good news for teams such as the Buccaneers and Chiefs, who were way under the cap. Now their advantage is somewhat compromised. Teams believed they would see a mild increase in the salary cap, but this is bigger than teams expected.
Technically, this is great news, but we were already freeing up space under the cap. I hope this doesn't throw more teams into the Bart Scott sweepstakes.
Absolutely. I can't post links, but i read on ProSportsDaily that the Jets really want to keep Moore this year, and they like him as a player. They don't want to pay the money he's guarenteed. He hasn't been officially cut yet, because they have been trying to work out a long term deal, but both the jets and Moore haven't came to an agreement. I hope this allows Rex to give more flexibility in giving Moore the kind of deal he wants. With coles gone, and the cap increase, we can keep moore and worry about our other holes in free agency and in the draft.
Right now, no news is good news. This unexpected 4 mil might make the Jets just go ahead and pay him this year under the old contract. Also, Moore may not have so much leveage now, and might be more ..um... agreeable to a new offer.
If you go on ProSportsDaily, under Jets news...sources closes to Moore says he will be released on terms with Rex to try and test Free Agency...pretty much the same scenerio as Coles. Couldn't come to a deal with him, so Rex is allowing him to see what he can get. He can still stay on the Jets...but it seems unlikely at this point. They say Moore will be officially cut today
