I hope you don't get excited on draft day...that would be such an embarrassment...everyone would laugh at us.
maybe this guy is Sean Payton's mom and her son gave her the inside information, which she is kind enough to bring here and share... Thanks Mrs. Payton
Saints are drafting Mario. I watch the NFC South and up until last year, the Panthers NEVER beat the Falcons with Vick at QB... John Fox knew that he had to change his defense if he ever wanted to beat the Falcons... With that they have Julius Peppers, another freak They drafted corners who can play bump and run coverage They also drafted Fast LB's The Bucs created the Blue Print and they have been the only team to succesfully beat Vick with their Defense The Saints have NEVER beaten the Falcons with Vick at QB. Their defense is ok, but causes no problems for Vick. If they want to beat the Falcons, they will draft Mario....
As much as they want to bolster the offense, the Jets could end up with North Carolina State defensive end Mario Williams, not left Virginia tackle D'Brickashaw Ferguson, as many have speculated. The leaguewide consensus is the Jets will stay at No.4 and gladly take Ferguson or Williams, whichever player doesn't go to the Saints at No.2. Reggie Bush is expected to go first to the Texans and it has been widely assumed the Saints want Williams. But now there are strong indications coming from New Orleans that the real preference is Ferguson. Publicly, the Saints have said right tackle Jammal Brown, the 13th pick in last year's draft, will move to the left side, seemingly eliminating the need for Ferguson. But that apparently is a smoke screen. Brown struggled in a recent minicamp at left tackle, prompting the Saints to reconsider. Of course, they could trade out of that spot (the Raiders could deal up for Texas quarterback Vince Young), which would be a good news-bad news situation for the Jets. It would be good because the Jets would have a choice of Williams or Ferguson, both blue-chip talents - assuming the Titans take Southern Cal's Matt Leinart at No. 3. The downside is that, with the top two quarterbacks off the board, the fourth pick would lose value and probably eliminate the Jets' chances of trading down for an extra pick. Ferguson would fill a bigger need, but Williams is a rare talent who could replace John Abraham. Another possible scenario: If Young or Leinart falls to them, the Jets could get a call from the Raiders about swapping places. That would be risky for the Jets; why take a chance on losing the player you really want? http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/story/412385p-348765c.html
And this one from the Times Picayune If Williams still is on the board, it could come down to him or Virginia left offensive tackle D'Brickashaw Ferguson. The Saints seem to be solid and young at defensive end with Charles Grant and Will Smith. If the Saints are sold on Brees, they might want a true left tackle to protect his blind side for the next six years. And, remember, Ferguson and Payton share the same agent http://www.nola.com/saints/t-p/index.ssf?/base/sports-2/114603119479070.xml
I like Will Smith...Charles Grant can be replaced though, and yes they have a good tandem, but absolutely no depth at all losing Darren Howard...Smith was the depth guy then... Williams is a freak to say the least, and a combo of him and Smith, with Charles Grant giving the breathers would be benficial to any defense... Just because they have good starters, which they do, doesn't mean in one play they're out and have someone like Tony Braynt replace them...Mario Williams is their guy.
Teams take players who not only suits there team, but also for division match-ups... The Saints have never beaten the Falcons with Vick at QB, and it don't look like they will anytime soon. The Bucs have been the only team to beat the Falcons with Vick at QB. A speedy defense is needed in order to neutralize Vick. The Panthers finally broke through and it is because John Fox drafted players based on his division. If you win your division, your'e in the playoffs...
haha i know what your thinking, Gunther does make a good point though. I live in FL so i catch alout of NFC South football. The Saints give the Panthers and the Bucs problems but never really seem to give the Falcons a run for their money. His theory for drafting Williams isnt that shabby, I mean who wouldnt want Mario? thats a rhetorical question. But on the other hand the Saints also just signed Drew Brees and currently have 3 tackles on their roster, with Jamaal Brown having the ability to play LT but struggling it would make alot of sense to have two dominating T's in Brown and Ferguson to protect Brees and solidify their line for some time. Sean Payton is also a QB guy so that makes some sense too. Although the only reason I could see the Saints trying to smokescreen for a D'Brick pick is if theyre looking to grab Brick after a trade down I'm with Gunther though, if your the Saints, you take Williams at 2 and dont look back.
Y would they draft for depth with the 2nd overall pik when u have an immediate need for a blocker to help protect ur QB who is coming of an injury.
Do you really think Mario would be depth? He's start from week 1 opposite Will Smith...It'd be Charles Grant IMO who'd be the depth guy... You cannot pass up a player like Mario Williams when at LT it seemingly is looking like last year's 1st rounder Jammal Brown will be at LT... And this guy has the size and skills of Julius Peppers, no way you'd pass that up.
Hey in a perfect world, I say the Saints should go OT, but like some of us in here, they might also be thinking this draft is rich in OT's. And if they are thinking about who they play in there division, then IMHO it is a no brainer, they have to pick Mario....
