So I was in the library, you know the place where you can get books for free and they had the book on the shelf, Sack Exchange by Greg Prato. This book is a oral history of the 1980's Jets right from the mouth of the players and coaches that lived through that era. Being that I was not born until 1984 I had no knowledge of these past Jets teams, so it looked like a great way to see what the Jets best defensive team(s) looked like. After finishing the book I feel that there are a ton of similarities with our current team and the team(s) from the 80's. So much so that I think everyone in the Jets organization Woody down to the PS players should read this book and learn from what works and what does not. From having a great defense, Super Bowl expectations, NFL strikes, players holding out its all in there. The Jets need to see how close these teams were and never made it to the super bowl that why we can take advantage of what ever chances we have left, before a book gets written about the 2009+ Jets chronicling another decade of missed chances.
If we had a QB, we would have won 2 Super Bowls. Todd was the weak link. The defense had good LB's and an average DB's, but the DL was killer. OL was also good as was the combo of runners. Todd sucked
The current team is nothing like that team. They had 4 huge motor pass rushers and we have none now. If we did we would be winning superbowls right now. Really, it's a shame, the Giants learned what it meant to have a line like that and the Jets apparently have forgotten. The last pass rusher we had we traded away.
I have a question, what was the perception on the Gmen during this time? they had 0 Super Bowls and the Jets had the sack exchange. Was it still a Giant town because of the NFL titles?
I believe that was just a few years after the Giants fans were burning their season tickets, not a great time for them.
It's different, I'm not sure it's better. If we had that line today this defense would be better than the '85 bears...
