I'm totally shocked it only took 1 extra year to get him to stay. I love this man.

I would be he will be falling apart by the 4th year. HE should send Cliff Lee a satchel full of blow and a thank you card... because if Lee signed with NY last year NO WAY he gets that extra year and $30 mil

so really, he didnt want to leave, but managed to steal a year and 25 million extra bucks? seems win-win for both parties.

    faggots.

    Ca$h money.

Much rather give him the money now than let another team inflate the market on us.

Just like ARod he got a raise he didn't deserve but I don't blame him for using the opt out(or in this case the threat of using it). make as much as you can while you are in demand.

for what? coming up small in October? he doesn't deserve a raise for that though i'm glad we got him back for April-Septmener.

He was pretty big in October 2009.

I think the six-man rotation screwed him up this year more than anything else. He was lights out this year until he had that rain delay start, and after that he was pitching on extra rest for most of his remaining starts, and we all know CC doesn't like that.

He got a raise because the Yanks couldn't afford to lose him.

Except the last two playoffs he hasn't got the job done. A number one starter needs to win more games in the post season. Period. That said I still think we had to have him and it's a fair market deal.

He was good in '09, I wouldn't really call him big in '09. he's struggled the last 2 postseasons.

The Yanks were in a bad spot, they did not to re-sign him and I credit CC and his agent for adding the opt out clause in but he certainly didn't deserve a raise the way he has pitched the last 2 postseasons.

They didn't add the opt out caluse, they never even asked for one...that was Cashman at his finest once again..first he ups the offer from 140 million to 160 when there were no other offers at all and then gives him an opt out clause that will cost between another 25 and 55 million...what's an unnecessary 75 million when you are the Yankees?

Weird. I think we actually see eye to eye on baseball.

fair deal for probably the first three years, but after that it will likely be wasted money.

but the Yanks had no choice, they couldn't afford to lose him this year no matter how much they have to pay him at the end of the contract.

the Yankees are playing to win the world series now, not in 5-7 years.

cc was pretty fucking good during the 09 postseason. I'm not sure that's even debatable.

He asked for the extra rest. Girardi would've gladly kept him on regular rest had he wanted it.

As for this contract, he had the leverage. I don't think it's a wise investment (for a normal team, in terms of whether he'll provide the return you'd expect for that money), but what's a little more wasted money after the Burnett, Posada, and A-Rod contracts.

every team wastes money on players, buts it's about how much you can get out of them. like Johan, k-rod, and Jason bay for example.

There are different degrees of wasting money.

Every team has given out bad contracts, but that doesn't make them all equal.
