i'd rather hire buddy ryan than the shotts. he was an assistant on our sb team, and won one with the bears. the eagles were crap until he took over. even kotite was able to win with his leftovers. no to martyball and yearly playoff exits.
Rex Ryan would be an upgrade to Mangini.... I wouldnt mind having a defensive minded HC at least were stepping in the right direction then maybe he can get Crennel in there and a dream of mines would be to get Donnie Henderson with him the defense was nasty and got after a QB..
You do realize they're talking about Rex Ryan, as in Buddy Ryan's son? This is my favorite coaching candidate available to us, for multiple reasons. Mostly being that he has a 3-4 mind. This is something that can benefit this new 3-4 Defense (I realize it's 3yrs old, but that's still relatively new considering some teams never change their Defensive Scheme.). Along with the fact that he's a 3-4 guy, he'd probably bring along Rob Ryan; his brother with him. It'd be nice to get back to Jets team that's focus was on Defense. Anyway, I know this is a long shot, but Ray Lewis becomes a FA this year, and Rex has alot of pull with him. I believe he'd be able to bring him over, especially considering there's been talk this could be Ray's last year in a Baltimore uniform, why not come to the team who your Defensive Coordinator the past several years is about to coach? Anyway, I'm really hoping we get this guy, and I really hope he kicks BS's ass to the curb and brings in a good OC.
My own opinion is that Spagnoulo has too much talent to work with to be considered a genius. Rex Ryan also has a lot of talent to play with, but I don't think he has as much as Spags does. So if it comes down to those two I vote for Rex.
I liek this move, I think he did all the qwokr that billimck got vcredit for and would make our d grweat, I would hope he brings in new offensive coordinators but I am all for him
Bringing in Rex would be great for our franchise for many reasons. He is an agressive guy. Thats one of the top things we were clamoring for since the late season collapse began. FIRE! He also brings a 3-4, meaning no defensive scheme change. This is the guy who can, if its possible, turn gholston into something, rather than the nothing we have. He will use Calvin Pace correctly, and as a result the man will be a monster. He could also manage to bring one of his linebackers over from baltimore... Bart Scott anyone? Remember, they have 3 lb's up for FA this year, Scott, Suggs, and Lewis. Can't keep all three, so Scott is likely the odd man out. Baltimore has had a top flight agressive defense for years back there. Guess what else, this is the man who coached Ed Reed! so maybe whatever he did to Reed, he could do to Rhodes! Plus he would likely try to install a run-first offense, like Bill Cowher.... Who you were all clamoring for! Give me Sexy Rexy and call it a day!
How can you not? Starting to like rex more and more! Here's to rooting for a Ravens loss ASAP so we can interview him, and bring in the right man for the job!
agreed to that. Marty has been around for a long time, and there is a reason no one gave him a shot after a 14-2 season in which his team choked and he got canned. I don't know what that reason is, but there clearly is one. Brian isnt ready yet. Bring in an entirely new regime. Keep some of our position coaches like Bryan Cox and Callahan (OC anyone?) and definately keep Westoff around he is the best in the business.
I like Rex he has proven himself as a defensive coordinator for a long time. Spags also has a great track record as a DC. They are both very good assistant coaches. My major concern is that neither one of them has any HC experience. Its a different job than being an assistant. The Jets have had crappy luck with picking assistant coaches for their first HC job. I would prefer we go with a proven HC. I know there are folks that don't like him, but if you look at Marty Schottenheimer's career - the guy is a proven excellent NFL HC. He has 21 seasons of HC experience and approx 75% of the time his teams finished in first or second place. I know he's 5-13 in the playoffs. But I would still be inclined to go with a proven HC rather than an AC - even one as good as Ryan or Spags.
Me too, but I really like how Harbaugh's offense runs and his in game adjustments. Since Rex was his assistant HC, hopefully some of that has rubbed off. One thing is I'm sure Leon would see a lot more touches.
well We won't know anything at all about Ryan until at best this Monday since we cant interview him until the Ravens are eliminated. So Since it is directly in the best interests of the Jets, I guess I am rooting for Miami this weekend. It's win win for us, We get a chance to interview one of our top candidates, if the Dolphins win and if they lose, we get to feel happy knowing that chad really does the same thing every year, chokes in the playoffs.
