Kellen Clemmens had a moderately successful career at Oregon until last season:

Last year Oregon implemented the run and shoot offense. Steve Spurrier at Florida also ran a version of the run and shoot offense. This offense has been abandoned by the NFL since the days of Warren Moon with the Houston Oilers and Andre Ware with the Detroit Lions.

Two years ago Tommy Chang with Hawaii ran a run and shoot offense and set NCAA records for passing statisitics. The most spectacular run and shoot QB in college was Andre Ware who the Heisman trophy and was the 1st round draft pick by the Detroit Lions. Florida under Steve Spurrier had a number of top rated run and shoot QB's who won Heisman trophies and were high draft choices who all busted in the NFL in standard NFL offensive schemes.

History of the run and shoot:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Run_&_Shoot

Question. Should the Jets consider being the first NFL team since the early 1990's to implement the run and shoot?

Steve Spurrier tried to run an NFL version of the run and shoot and failed miserably. This might have been partly due to having no running back or offensive line, but still I wouldn't wanna do a retread there. The prase "fun and gun" probably gives Patrick Ramsey nightmares.

The Redskins tried the Run & Shoot just a few years ago with Spurrier, that is what fucked Ramsey up at the beginning of his career.

The run and shoot while it can lead to success in the regular season is not the recipe for success in the playoffs when you need a strong running game.

While the "Greatest Show on Turf" may have used the pass to set up the run, they had a terrific running game when they won the Super Bowl. Spurrier didn't realize that which is why he misused Stephen Davis and then traded him away.

is it only me or did anyone else notice the 40 sacks in 2004 and still managed to pull off a 131.6 rating...looks like he can handle the pressure! i like this pick. hopefully we can catch a draft break and pick up a gem like other teams, but the jets, do

Funny how this troll is now trying to "disguise" his pessimism with posts like these.

I think he took the captioned from what was written in the srticle he published with the post

Steve Spurrier at Florida also ran a version of the run and shoot offense.

Not tired of seeing Jets quarterbacks carried off the field yet? Try sending everyone out and hoping the qb can get the pass off before being obliterated by an unblocked defensive player. That's the basis of the run and shoot. I would think the over/under on how long a qb stays on his feet in the run and shoot in the NFL is 3 games.

I was thinking the same thing.

    1) It didn't work with Spurrier in Washington.

    2) The Jets WR corp isn't built for that type of offense. You need 2 or 3 burners to stretch the field.
