Hey, it's slow, what else do we have to talk about? Corey Davis Comeback Rumor https://heavy.com/sports/new-york-jets/corey-davis-potential-nfl-comeback/ Not a rumor, but something to talk about Crazy Mike Tannenbaum Trade Suggestion https://heavy.com/sports/new-york-jets/brandin-cooks-cj-mosley-cowboys-trade/ Crazy Prediction https://heavy.com/sports/new-york-jets/mike-evans-projected-jump-to-afc/ George Fant Anyone? https://heavy.com/sports/new-york-jets/george-fant-claps-back-at-analyst/ Geno Smith as Backup QB? LOL https://heavy.com/sports/new-york-jets/geno-smith-possible-trade-seattle-seahawks/ Shawn Jefferson/Marquise Brown Connection - Potential FA Acquisition? https://heavy.com/sports/new-york-jets/marquise-brown-free-agent-possibility/
I do have to ask though, what Seattle has to gain by trading Geno... Sure they save money, but it seems to be a pretty team friendly cap hit, and they also have nobody promising waiting in the wings. They don't have a high draft pick in the first round, and no 2nd round pick period due to the short sighted Leonard Williams trade. Sent from my genius mind.
Geno is basically just another guy a declining Rodgers would never sign off on having as his backup. Too much recent success as a starter. Way too high a reality target tier for our BU search (even though I have ZERO doubt that he'd simply revert back to the old Jets version of Gino *here* and within a Hackett run offense) I'd be happy to see Corey Davis back though. I currently don't believe Vegas ends up trading Adams. I also don't think we actually do any better in free agency after some franchise tags and the more attractive teams' competing interest elsewhere thin the reality options out. The offseason is practically screaming that probably breaking down into a overhyped "the Jets add former all star OBJ and Super Bowl winning wide receiver MVS!!!!".....and I'll ultimately take a Davis flyer over either of those guys. With OBJ basically being a smaller scale version of the Rodgers mistake all over again (you are buying headlines and ignoring the overwhelming probability of seeing a further decline in skill/availability/production on an aging out of the league player).
Imagine signing Mike Evans and bringing back Corey Davis (probably can't do both financially) but damn that would be a potent offense IF you get the o-line straightened out.
Imagine not. Two over the hill, back end of their career WRs past their prime. Defenses are just staying up at night worried about this potent combo. Damn that is so far off from what needs to be done it's not funny. Hard pass. And no that would hardly scare a good college team. WTF.
No, they send me an email periodically. Most of the time I don't read it, but lately there hasn't been much Jets news, so I've read the articles. I disagree with most of their takes, but thought it would give us something to talk about.
I agree. That shocked me. I don't understand why they would trade him. I don't think they will, but who knows? As we know some really dumb moves are made in the NFL.
I agree. I'd take Davis over either OBJ or MVS, but I think I'd prefer Marquise Brown. He has experience with Shawn Jefferson, our WR Coach.
If the Jets signed both of those WRs, I doubt they'd have the money to do anything much with the OL. Mike Evans is going to be too expensive and his play has started declining. I hope the Jets don't have any interest in him. They'd be paying him for past production, not what he's likely to do now in the twilight of his career.
I have no desire to see Corey Davis back. He quit on the team, leaving the Jets high and dry with no time to get a viable replacement. One reason among many for the 7 win season was WR depth. Geno Smith as backup makes no sense, surely he'd want to start somewhere. I'd be over the moon with that, but how much would he cost? Seems like an expensive backup QB, plus the Jets lose draft assets.
Ehh. I mean without knowing the exact specifics the "why" there I have a hard time adopting such a harsh take on that. Especially since to me the most logical explanation with nothing else bubbling to the surface by now would suggest he did indeed did it for the reasons he stated - a want/need to spend more time with his wife and kids. Maybe he needed to do that at the time to save his marriage. I got no issue with him putting that before football if so. Plus, let's not re-write history here. There was a LOT of speculation at the time he wasn't going to even be making the final roster cuts post-Rodgers "my guys" intervention, and it was more Saleh's insistence that he still had a place here keeping that kept him in the mix more then anything else. Not some deemed "need" of him he walked out on. As I've stated elsewhere with other players, you also can't just lazily copy and paste past production into different future situations. Like c'mon...he or his small handful of missed opportunity catches that mostly just went elsewhere wasn't realistically going to be a expected wins difference maker within that Hackett offense we ended up trotting out there last year lol.
Corey Davis is 29 years old, has good size, has a history of good production as a number 2 receiver, and will command a modest contract. To me, that sounds like exactly the kind of receiver the Jets need. It will be important for him to explain his retirement last year, though.
Aaron Rodgers is going to get hurt next year. BOOK IT. Stop making all these "get rich quick" plans when the Jets could hopefully have a normal outlook/future in 2025 after this failed experiment leaves town. I can't wait for that day. It's so sad but this is the current state of the Jets. Next year is going to be AWFUL. The Fins and Bills are wayy ahead of the Jets. The Pats? I can already see them finding a diamond QB in this draft which fucking pains me to say. Stop being so short sighted and delusional with all these overpriced, over the hill signings that will ONLY BE FOR 1 FUCKING YEAR! You heard it here first. Rodgers goes down on that shitty turf that MetLife has once again. 40 year old QB's coming off an ACL will never be a thing until they start replacing humans with Cyborgs. Never! Woody Johnson and the Maras, wake the fuck up and put down some real grass surface. You can afford it you cheap, billionaire pricks! Call me a darksider if you will. I'd rather like to look at it as I'm a pragmatist. You're shooting your load for one year with Rodgers, it's going to be an epic fail once again for the Jets. Build the rest of the team for the long term outlook, not for Mr. Narcissist Rodgers' one year reunion tour. It's only February with a LONG way to go and I can already see it playing out like this. Get O Lineman and cheap, promising WR's in the draft. There's plenty of them. You just need a GM with an eye for evaluating talent. Does Joe Douglas even know how to find solid picks outside of Round 1??? (Breece Hall was basically a late 1st so he don't count) Rant over\
I have a couple of friends who are Bucs fans and they told me his play has declined. I took their word for it, but just looked him up, and those stats sure don't look like it, as it's the second highest yardage total in his career, the 3rd most receptions of his career, and the 2nd most TDs. He hasn't missed many games in his career, either. Regardless, the Jets can't afford him. They need to fix the OL Typical Jets bad luck brought on by bad decisions, bad FA signings and bad drafting.
That was one epic complaint lol. I don't agree with all of it, but I could feel your anger just by reading I love it. The 1 issue really I have is you just ranted without offering any long term ideas. I'm with you on building long term. We need to take a qb high in the draft, or get a solid gap option if we're not even gonna look for the future franchise qb until 2025.
