If the JETS had an owner who actually knew anything about football I wouldnt really see a major problem with this...but.....
I want MLF gone too to be honest. I have no problem with Saleh staying another year but he has to bring in an experienced OC. Job is too big for MLF unfortunately.
Woody does need to stay out of it, but the offense really struggled especially these last few weeks. I figured LaFleur would be the "fall guy" for this but the entire offensive coaching staff. I didn't see that one coming.
The Jets offense has blown chunks both prior to and after the coaching change. It's been so bad over the last two years that I think you have to ask yourself why you would want to bring the coaches on that side of the ball back. Continuity obviously is not a positive thing when it represents bottom 5 of the NFL performance. The only reason I would consider bringing LaFleur and his staff back is if I was outright dumping Zach Wilson. Bringing LaFleur back with any major role anticipated for Zach would be about the most clueless thing a franchise could do.
Why should Woody stay out of it. One of if not the worst offense in the league two years in a row. He should just ignore that? You have ex All Pro levelQBs questioning the concepts and what is being taught. You have WRs requesting trades, you have FA that played well elsewhere being signed and being just awful. You have the #2 pick badly regressing. Was better without coaching as a raw rookie. Occams Razor says look no further than MLF and who he has hired. If his boss can’t see it, then the boss goes as well.
It’s tough to blame Woody here. He trusted Douglas and then Saleh to bring zero bigger time coaching experience with him besides Ulbrich’s bullshit tenure as a DC with them. They didn’t. The offense has been just terrible. My worry here is that this mandate also comes with Zach Wilson being the relatively unquestioned starter for us under a new staff. Also - Woody doesn’t have nuggets if he lets this go longer than this week without telling Saleh he can pack his bags too.
You have to wonder where Douglas stands on this. If this report is true, will he side with Saleh (and LaFleur) or Woody? This is the kind of shit that causes an organization to be chronically dysfunctional.
I’d have to imagine like most people he stands on the side that keeps his job the safest. I haven’t looked into it too much but I don’t believe GM’s get second gigs as easy as coaches do.
If it includes Zach it is 100% mistake. If he is just asking for accountability for one of the worse offenses in football for two years seems reasonable.
I'd be fine with a new OC, but who are you really going to get? If someone like Frank Reich is available, than by all means, go for it. If Saleh and JD are potentially on the hotseat this year, why would any respectable OC want to join. I'd rather give LeFleur a chance with Carr or Garrapolo, than fire him and hire the "passing game coordinator" from another team. Maybe bring in an assistant or something to help him.
Jesus, people. You have to give them all one more year. If no playoffs then fire them all and bring in a new regime. You won’t find a decent OC who’ll be willing to come in as a one year rental for a lame duck regime. And if, as an organization, you’re letting the jackass owner call the shots, then you deserve the shit sandwich you get year after year.
I'm really tiring of these "rumors". I choose sportswriting over gossip. Sign of the times. I get it.
We should fire them all. Fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me. Fool me three times? Same old Jets.
but that's not really going to be the case here. If Saleh (and JD) are going to be on the hot seat, they will have a much bigger say in what we do with Zach. Though, if the rumors of Woody being close with Zach, then it doesn't really matter and Saleh & JD don't actually have any real power. I can't think of a single team that the OC has that much power with a QB -- it almost always is an organizational decision
If this happens with MLF, who comes in with the possibility of only being with the team 1 season if Saleh gets canned next year?
Yes, but if you bring in somebody like Frank Reich and he tells you the kid is not ready you have to listen or vice versa. LaFleur has no idea. Lafleur might do better with an experienced QB like Carr or Jimmy G when they look at the play design and question the concepts.
I'm not an expert, but my guess is that MLF as an OC does some things well and other things not so well. If he's not fired, then they'll likely hire offensive expertise to assist MLF.
