If Douglas can use Lawson to get a decent OL, either as a direct piece if a trade, or by leveraging the assets from it, he'll start working his way back into my good graces.
With the way we restructured that contract does anyone know the financial hit/savings by trading him?
pretty much nothing. his base salary is too low. only 1mil. so we'll save about 600k in salary. other then that his 6.4mil cap hit next year moves to this year which would have rolled over anyway so it's just kind of a wash
Not doubting you but pointing out that OTC says post-June 1 trade this year is 2mm dead money cap hit and 1 million in cap savings--not sure at all if they update this by game etc so the 600k you state seems very reasonable but not sure about the 6.4mm dead cap. In any case, the contract makes him movable to other teams far more than I originally thought. He's probably a 6th round equivalent, no? In a bidding war maybe a 5th.
I really hope we get through this trade deadline without Derrick Henry ending up with one of our division rivals (Miami / Buffalo)
It's a wash either way though. money not used this year rolls over. All paid money has to hit the cap. the 6.3mil dead cap next year hits no matter what since we paid it out already. If we trade him, those void years should have to hit this cap. I could be wrong and it hits next years cap. that is certainly possible. but in the long run, it ends up the same as it was money paid out. The only thing teams save on when trading/cutting a player is future bonus's and salaries. we already paid lawson everything on the contract except 11 games of salary from 2023 and since his salary is only 1,080,000.00 it's not much savings.
I can't imagine why miami would want him. mostert is on fire, as is achane who si coming back and they just got wilson back. I could see buffalo making a run at him.
Just a little dreaming. Devante Adams wants out of Las Vegas in the worst way. Give them Lawson and a pick next year, say third round. He would love to move to a competitive team this year and re joins AR next year. We could have the best tandem WR in the NFL hands down.
I mean it's cool to get 6th for 7th round pick swaps in 2025 for solid players we are giving away, but can we also get someone who can actually help us this year on OLine/WR?
He fits Buffalo and their needs more than any other team. Miami stretches you out side to side with speed. Buffalo is gonna be covered in snow soon and he fits the north/south mentality
