http://www.metsblog.com/ Why don't they Yankees just give us a German Sheppard to fertilize the fresh new citi field grass. The last thing the Mets need is more Yankee castoffs. Players, coaches or otherwise.
It is hard to believe that even Omar would consider such a ridiculous trade, but I've already said in the offseason thread that I absolutely believe that the Mets are willing to trade Beltran.
mets need people who produce in september not underachieve after signing a new contract. plus we already need an of yo think we can get 2 this off season
Second time today I've seen Ian Kennedy's name in a trade proposal. How much trade value can the guy have?
This is garbage I saw a kink about this on the YES Network forum , and a poster linked the deal to Pete Abraham's site, even thought there was nothing on the site. Plus you can keep Beltran. Cano is soooooo young, and has so much potential. In an off year he hit .270.
Yankee fans shooting this down because they think they're the ones being ripped off is the height of delusional overvaluing of homegrowned prospects. Beltran is one of the best players in the game. Overpaid? Yeah, a little bit. But he's an outstanding hitter who plays top-notch defense and one of the most important positions. Cano is a pretty solid hitter for his positon, but he doesn't get on-base regularly unless the singles are dropping in, he isn't a top-flight defender, and he's disposed to dogging it. Kennedy will probably be a good middle-rotation starter, but that's still a crap shoot. No way does a package of those guys and a middle relief arm come close to equaling Beltran in value.
Beltran is a funny case, some fans perceive him as an underachiever or lazy because they thought he was going to be a 50 hr guy after the 2004 playoffs, and yet despite having an .800 slugging % in 22 playoff games people think he's a choker and "unclutch"
This is so true - the level of hatred for this guy is amazing. A big part of it, I think, is that he doesn't look like he's running hard out there. Of course, he catches everything, but so what if his cap doesn't come flying off. The other thing that counts against him is the ridiculous focus on batting average - because he doesn't hit .300 he's a disappointment, even though his OBP, the number that actually matters, is over .370 over the last three years. And he's got a lifetime OPS of 1.302 in the post-season, something very few of the so-called "clutch" players even approach. Anyone who doesn't see that this trade would be ridiculously in favor of the Yankees is IMO crazy.
I would personally fly to Queens and cut Omar's nuts off and feed them to him if he made this trade or any awful trade for Carlos. If the guy is on the block and who knows if he is then they better get the better end of it and judging from Omars history the Mets will get fleeced. (One great trade for the best pitcher in baseball does not negate all the garbage he has done in his tenure). I'm still fuming over Lindstrom saving that game that kept us out of the playoffs. If Beltran was traded they better get somebody who is a proven player, not some guy who has potential or a middle of the rotation guy. I'm talking bonafide all star like Kinsler or Ichiro. None of this prospect crap.
his stats in the postseason are overall good as a Met, but of course they don't approach what he did that crazy postseason with Houston. Maybe fans were expecting him to match that outburst.
I'd rather get Cano that Ichiro. A 35 year old slap hitter who might be mentally deranged? Not worth the awesome quotes.
Omar is going to kill this ball club, I highly doubt he could be stupid enough to make this trade but I don't put it past him to make a trade that is slightly less crazy than this rumor.
LOL at Cano being dogshit. No, no Luis Castillo is dogshit. Cano had one AWFUL month to open the year but outside of that and his brainfarts on the field.......Hes one of the best 2B in the game. Finished 3rd in 2006 for best AL Avg behind Mauer and Jeter and was an all star that year(Granted voted in but would have made it anyhow.....Injury kept him from playing though). 2007 wasnt as better of a year but still had respectable numbers. 2008 was an iffy year and I think Cano can do better and it shows that an off year by Cano=Yanks being worse and when Cano is on, the team follows. And Ian Kennedy has been pretty bad so far for us but Met fans should know what happened to Mike Pelfrey to open his career. 1st year or two, Pelfrey was getting his fastball smacked as far as one can get but he adjusted soon enough and the experience early in his career paid off as he had a hell of a 2008. NOW that doesnt mean Kennedy will produce how Pelfrey did in 2008 but you see what I mean.....you cant just give up on a young arm so quickly which is why I still think Kennedy can be a useable 4 or 5 in time for the Yanks or for any team. I think Beltran's a hell of a player but his contract is way too much to take on and he often has some mental lapses in the games I have seen vs the Mets, mostly in the outfield(Which sounds crazy as Carlos is widely considered a very good CF). I just dont like it for the Yanks as Austin Jackson is nearing and should be ready by mid to late 2009.
