I was talking to a guy at work about this hypothetical situation. Let's say Cromartie and a WR are trash talking each other all game and both are super heated. One one play the WR catches a hitch and gives Cro a nasty palm to the forehead so Cro wrestles him down and gives him a little extra ankle-wrenching on the ground. Now let's say later on there's a bubble sceen with 2 WRs on Cro's side and the blocking WR has Cro engaged. If the WR who catches the pass turns to Cromartie, who is engaged by a blocker, and winds up and gives Cro a palm to the side fo the head instead of running upfield....what's the call? Is that just a dirty stiff arm? Is it unnecessary roughness? In the course of the game it is not impossible that a player with the ball may stiff arm a guy who is partially blocked, but if it was a clear attempt to take a cheap shot, can it be penalized?
No idea but I would think that any previous scrapping between the two is irrelevant when making a call. At least it should be.
