IMO, the picks each round that were a reach and terrible value Rd 1 James Carpenter, Seahawks........Pete needs to wake up and understand the draft process. Rd 2 Jonas Mouton, Chargers.....I had Mouton rated in Rd 5. The Chargers had many better options. Never impressed with Mouton in the Big Ten. Rd 3 Chris Conte, Bears....a real good Safety that stock was rising, but still a reach. Rd 4 Chris Prosinski, Jags...sorry, he should have been undrafted when other DBs like Williams and Burney go undrafted. Rd 5 Issac Rod, Jags....I think the Jags don't understand value, although I like the Rackley pick in Rd 3. Didn't bother with Rd 6 & 7 for obvious reasons.
What about Riddley by the Pats in the 3rd. I thought he was borderline draftable. As far as the first I would say, Ponder and Locker.
To come to the defense of Ponder and Locker here, when it comes to QB's there really aren't any true reaches in round 1 imo. If you are a team in need of a QB, and you feel that this guy is a franchise QB, you take him where you are. You don't fuck around and trade back and risk him not making it to you. In the case of Locker, he wasn't falling past Minny at 12, so taking him at 8 is the best move. Ponder probably could have been had later, but I am not a proponent of dicking around with a QB. If you think he is the guy, you take him and don't look back. That said, Minny tried to trade back, and clearly wasn't able to. At the end, you just have to take your guy if no deal is available. As far as Ridley, I thought he was a bigger reach than Conte in the 3rd, coupled with the drafting of Vareen like 40 picks previous and it certainly seems like a mistake right now by Belli. I'm totally ok with that.
I don't really mind the Mouton pick in round 2, I just don't really like the team he went to. The Chargers needed an inside linebacker but they needed a Ted, not a Mike. Either way, he's not going to contribute immediately, so by that logic the Chargers did get poor value where they took him.
