Seems that all of our problems stem from not having the right people making the right decisions personnel and/or scheme wise. Our defense while talented, can be exploited because the HC/DC won't flex their coverages to fit the situation. Our offense is hamstrung by poor OLine play so who is our OLC and WTF is he doing? Our offensive system is predicated on having a future HOF QB taking snaps when in fact, we have a 3rd year rookie who is taking babysteps along the path to being a NFL QB. Our OC obviously has issues since he cannot keep a job and has already been called out once for being horrible. The Captain of this ship, one Bob Saleh, has yet to have a winning season although he is one helluva cheerleader. His motivational tactics simply don't work although they make great headlines. Nice guy, players love him, just can't win football games and gets consistently outcoached by experienced HC's. Our GM got lucky with one great draft, but has been unlucky ever since trying to upgrade the weakest unit on the roster. His DP's either get hurt, or simply do not play well enough. His penchant to go bargain hunting for critical talent leaves a lot to be desired as well. All in all, this has all the components of a slow motion trainwreck. Car by Car crashing into the car in front of it. Answer perhaps is the most painful one: New HC, new staff, new philosphy on draft day. The NFL has changed to an offense wins league. Maybe the Jets might wanna consider going that route.
The losses are piling up on Saleh. His record isn’t much better than Gase. That said he’s had an unplayable QB for most of his tenure here.
This will be year 3 and it looks a lot like 3rd year finishing 4th in the division. I've never heard of a HC keeping a job after finishing worst in their division for 3 straight years.
Though I am not entirely on board with this post. I enjoyed reading it and it provides great points. Good one. I agree about the NFL being an offense first league. Jets are aware of that (Gaze. LeFleur.) but have not gotten it right yet. They determined Rodgers was the sole answer, and it may have been until he fell. Now we're left with players that he wanted here because they knew his detailed traits, made it more comfortable for him (He thought he needed that but probably did not since he took to everyone so well) which is suddenly and cruelly a moot point. In hindsight, Rodgers should have accepted what we already had - save Lazard, who might still show us something. Then again, would Mims and Elijah Moore make things any different today? Can't blame Corey Davis on the Jets staff. That's another topic. Week to week the fate pendulum swings based on the Sunday result. Monday we either feel better about Bob (Saleh) or we fucking lose our lunch at 1-3 and thought games ahead of us. All I know is my wife spent a sick amount of money on tickets for Sunday's game as my birthday present, and the shit whether combined with what "might" happen, it could be the gift from hell. We thought we'd be attending the glorious end of the Pats losing streak by the hand of our God QB - in the September sun. Now, I might be looking at Jets Colts 1993 (9-6 loss)
I have a slightly different take on the same subject. jD had his shortcomings with personnel, but selecting the right CS might be a bigger problem. They seem entirely too green as a group short of Boyer. Thus we get out coached against the best and we do not remotely adjust on the fly. Muy two cents.
You haven't been around these parts long enough to know that option has been beaten to death. Woody Johnson may be an idiot, but he will NEVER sell his cash cow. Just a wet dream for long suffering fans.
Yes like I said we have atleast 30 more years of Woody's, why would they sell the team when they raise Ticket prices every year and people line up to pay to see grade a dodoo on the field?
Yes I agree with you so next logical thing to do is to clean house and hope you get it right this time and hire a competent Gm and coach. No sense to keep these failures here so they can further run this team into the ground. A couple players get fed up and demand to be traded and we go from a 7-10 team to a 1-16 team. I for one want to see Garret Wilson and Sauce retire as a Jet.
I have never understood Woody fascination with trying to catch lightning in a bottle. He just will not hire anyone with prior HC experience. Adam Gase was his dumbfuck brother Chris's choice. Everytime they want to hire someone to be HC, they look for a prior DC. Never a prior HC. Why they passed on Doug Pederson is a complete mystery. Agreed, they don't know how to groom a young QB nor do they know how to hire an experienced offensive minded HC.
The league needs to step in and force an experienced GM on Woody like they did with the Giants in the late 70s with George Young. It's the only solution. The only remotely football-savvy people talking to Woody are the cripples he has in house. They aren't going to get this going in the right direction. When the networks raise a stink about the horrible prime-time product they're getting, the league will be incentivized to do something.
The root cause, if we want to go all the way back, is that Chris Johnson didn't fire Maccagnan along with Bowles. The result of that was only Gase was willing to take the HC job, and the result of him being locked in at coach was that we ended up with Douglas at GM who is not good at his job.
This is exactly the root cause. I told everyone on here JD is too risk-averse. That style of GM will never work in NYC. The city is for movers and shakers. You can't have this thoughtful status quo approach – and think you can win here. That being said JD's last draft saved his butt so much. But he had 4 1sts (including Breece in here since he was #36)...... which is never happening EVER again for him. But, He nailed last year's draft! We just need a QB and I think the biggest mistake of the offseason was letting Mike White walk for Zach Wilson's development. UNBELIEVABLY WRONG MOVE. Now everyone is afraid to hurt Zach Wilson's feeling on the sidelines. We're talking about a starting NFL QB. Man, Lombardi would be turning in his grave. I can't believe this. Zach needed to be shipped for a 7th rounder + conditional and take his chances somewhere else. I said it now, we're gotta watch this fanbase destroy what's left of his fragile ego. SAD.
