Last January, while speaking on the “Pat McAfee Show,” he said this of Wilson: “I think he’s super talented. I think a little humility is good for all of us at various times in our careers. I think the first year, they literally had no players. They came to practice against us and I was like, ‘the defense can play and the offense needs some more players.’ … “For (Wilson), it’s going to be humility, just lean into that, and be consistently working on the fundamentals. I think he’s so talented, but the best in the business can make all the plays outside the pocket, can move around, but fundamentally inside the pocket … that’s where you beat teams. ... I hope that whoever they decide to go with at coordinator can work with him and kind of break down a lot of fundamentals for him and get him playing on time. I think he’s talented enough to have a long career in the league.”
I remember, and hope he is right, for now you might want to spell his first name correctly in the title to avoid any more frivolous comments.
I still can't believe they will have Zach as the backup QB. 68 QB's started last year and even if we get Rodgers odds are that Zach will need to start a game or two. Those two loses could mean playoffs. Jets doubling down on a bad hand the got by drafting him number two.
And who did Z Wilson proclaim was his boyhood hero??>>>one Arron Rogers If this young man cannot respect and learn something from one of the best then he should find that job at Jet Blue fast! If the Jets management decides to install ZW as our number 1 back up QB it will be the ongoing Douglas pride thing and pure stupidity We need a reliable Vet ..or the SOJS can undo a historic signing for Rogers very quickly
I think after AR we get another Vet and double down on the learning for Wilson. I never liked ML he was too stubborn and stuck to a system even though he did not have all the pieces, alienated players. Let's see what another more exp oc can do. At some point the team needs to take ownership of not helping the kid to max as they should have. I am not saying he did not suck last yr he most certainly proved he can be brain dead. And that will get you killed in NY
This says it all and repeats what a lot of "experts" have been saying for years. To be successful in the NFL, a QB has to learn to operate from the pocket. It's one thing to heed the advice, another to execute. I hope Zach can learn to do this.
Still a lot of offseason left. It's definitely possible that they bring in another QB in FA or the draft and let that QB and Zach battle it out for the backup role. In an ideal world Zach could win that job so we don't have to pay our QB3 ~9M but we'll see.
