Update* 6 offensive players and 5 defensive players. Rd 1) Brandin Cooks, WR, Oregon State We need playmakers and in a WCO players that can get YAC are critical to success. Cooks fits our offensive scheme well and can step in day 1. Rd 2) JuWaun James, OT, Tennessee With Howard gone and holes everywhere on our OL James a 6'6'' 315 lber beast would be a perfect fit. An underrated OL with a very high ceiling. He is solid at both run blocking and pass protection and is a true rounded OL. Rd 3a) Jimmie Ward, S, Northern Illinois Ward is a true FS that doesn't have great size but has speed and good cover skills. It would be nice if he could learn under Reed for a year. Rd 3b) Cyril Richardson, G, Baylor Winters has been a bit of a project and Colon might not be re attained. Guard is a position of need here and Cyril is one of the best in the draft. Rd 4) Martavius Bryant, WR, Clemson Being in Sammy Watkins shadow it hurt his draft stock but I think this kid has the tools to be a legit WR in the NFL. Good size, speed and hands. Rd 5) Beau Allen, DT, Wisconsin Big Beau gives us some depth at DT along with a big run stopping body Rex loves. Rd 5) Marion Grice, RB, Arizona State Grice is a multi tool back. He can catch the ball as well as he can run it. MM has had plenty of success with those types of RBs. Rd 6) Arthur Lynch, TE, Georgia With Cumberland signed, Lynch would be a solid blocking TE that can still make a big redzone play. Rd 6) Aaron Colvin, CB, Oklahoma Would probably sit next season out but is a top notch value pick. Rd 6) Chris Davis, CB/KR, Auburn Davis would be more a special teams KR but could fill in at corner if injuries happen. RD 7) A.J. Tarpley, ILB/OLB, Stanford Tarpley is just a solid football player that mostly plays ILB but can jump to the outside to confuse coverages. He would probably start on special teams and move up if there are injuries.
I'm kinda a fan, except Dee Ford will not slip to our spot in the 2nd I don't believe, and Ward could go as high as the first. He most definitely won't be there in the 4th. I wonder if the FO is high on Jarvis Landry and if they think he can play on the outside
I'd love getting Ford in the 2nd but don't see any way he slips that far. I have lost a lot of interest in Landry. I'd rather have Niklas or Fiedorowicz in that spot or the WR from Mississippi whose name escapes me at the moment a little lower. I'd also be surprised if Richardson drops that far, but that would be an excellent pick. I think Jimmy Ward goes in the 2nd round, so no way he's there in the 4th. Why in the world would the Jets draft a DT in round 5? They have no need for or roster space for him. That would be a wasted pick. I don't know Tarpley, but like the rest.
I like Lynch a lot and will be very surprised if he makes it out of the top 120 picks or so, but you never know. glad to see Beau Allen getting some love... he looked like a real player against Grice's Sun Devils. I think swapping Lynch and Allen is a little more realistic. I agree that Ford is unlikely to nake it out of the top 40. i think it is more likely he goes in the top 12. All JMO of course.
Ward is a bit of a stretch i admit, figure there is a chance he could slip just because Northern Illinois is a small school and Ward is a bit undersized. I like adding a DT just to bring in some hungry players to camp and get the guys looking over their shoulders and competing. As for Landry he fits the WCO perfectly, YAC players is what we want and i think a combo of Cooks, Landry and Kerley could be real nice.
