now who will fill in for him? Ian Kennedy? Tyler Clippard? Or promote someone from the pen to start; Kartsens or Chamberlain?
Not Kennedy, he's not on the 40 man. I doubt they will screw around with Chamberlain. Didn't Karstens just get a blister? Probably Clippard, Henn or Igawa.
I've openly criticized Clemens and Giambi, along with Bonds. ANY cheater is a cheater, regardless of the team he plays for. That said, Clemens has one thing going for him that Bonds doesn't: Roger's never tested positive for anything. I find it amazing that the court of public opinion allows Bonds to skate even though he has tested positive for amphetamines because he hasn't tested positive for steroids, but Clemens, simply on the word of guys who've been "caught," is a villian. Yes, I believe Roger has used steroids. Yes, we "know" Giambi did use. At the same time, we all "know" Bonds did too. None of them are clean, but Bonds broke the single most difficult record in sports thanks to performance enhancement. That's why Barry gets, and deserves, the crap he gets.
So here's a question for you: Do you think he was justified doing what he did or not? I think any Yankees fan would agree with the first "pitch behind" to ARod. It's not Alex's fault that the pitch missed. He took the act in stride, and let it go, knowing it was "justified." But that wasn't enough for Toronto. Towers had to actually hit him to feel things were squared. Not to mention Stairs was trying hard to get his hands on ARod. So should Clemens have just let it all slide? If that were the Mets or Red Sox, would you feel the revenge throw was justified, all other things being equal? I understand you hate the Yankees, but can you honestly say Roger should not have done what he did?
Clemens is still around BECAUSE of the steroids and has been able to win over 350 career games and an additional 4 CY Young awards. He has accomplished just as much as a pitcher as Bonds has as a hitter because of the steroids. 2 things of note about Clemens - Didn't he start playing 1/2 the season when the MLB decided to start testing players and wouldn't it make it easier to miss the random tests when you are not with the team on a daily basis during the season?
The first half of your argument is debatable. Steroids has prolonged his career, but to win 350, and 4 CY Youngs isn't comparable to Bonds setting the all-time record for career home runs. The HR record is a totally ridiculous number, and is fully individual, in terms of effort to accomplish. The wins are a result of playing with good teams, and the Cy Youngs are a result of votes, mostly based on reputation. The second part of your argument is probably spot on. Like I said, I'm vocal about disliking Clemens for being a cheater. Same goes for Giambi, Sheffield, Big Mac, Slammin Sammy, et al. I said last year that it was pretty shady that Sheffield missed so much time for an injury that honestly never looked all that bad. Same for Giambi this year. But again, Clemens has never been "busted" nor has he ever admitted to anything. On the other hand, Bonds has done both, though he did so with the addendum that he "didn't know what it was." The first argument people make in defense of Bonds is that he's never been busted. That is patently untrue. He was caught for amphetamines (regardless of the next counter-argument that it's been in baseball for a long time,) and he's also admitted to using steroids, but claimed, through the infamous "cream and the clear" speech, that he didn't know what he was using, and that he believed it was flaxseed oil.
He's just angry that Shawn Estes made the same mistake with Clemens a few years ago as the Toronto pitcher did with A-Rod.
He should not have done what he did. Everything was evened up after A-Blow did his bush league activities during the last trip to Toronto for baseball and stripper banging. Now its the Blue Jays turn again.
I didn't realize you keep throwing at someone till you hit him... when did that rule come out... also Towers didn't help himself by yelling at Tony Perez that he quit on the Royals... Who the fuck it Josh Towers? Part of the reason we signed Clemens is his ability to intimidate and stick up for his players... shoulda hit him harder IMO...
I hate the MLB system. In my system, if you appeal a suspension and the appeal is denied, the suspension doubles. the current way, people get to choose when to get suspended. I'm sick of Clemens. As a repeat offender (throws at people all the time), he should be severely punished.
Yes, if it is in retaliation for the other team doing something stupid. A Yankees player went the bush route. Toronto responded. That should have been the end of it, but then The Rocket Man decided he had to hit Alex Rios. Rocket Man has to pay attention.
For retaliating for protection of his teammates? How many innings of baseball have you watched in your life?
