Patriots | Team's defense remains one of league's most feared
    Wed, 22 Aug 2007 21:46:14 -0700

Robert Lee, of the Providence Journal, reports the New England Patriots have allowed 17.74 points per game since 2001. That mark ranks the club third in the NFL over that span. Last year the team finished second in the league with a franchise record of 14.81 points allowed per game. The performance of that unit has continued through the beginning of the 2007 preseason, when the Patriots have allowed 16.5 points per game and have tallied 3.5 sacks per game. Part of the reason is likely that the team's defensive nucleus from last year is largely the same. "A lot of us have been around a while and we've been around each other a bunch, too, which is nice," LB Tedy Bruschi said.

What's the criteria set to go from being a 'beast' to a 'monster' and which is better?

You realize he didn't write those blurbs, KFFL did, he just wrote a story for the providence journal about the Patriots Defense and it's rank from 2001 on, and KFFL put it on every starter on the D so they would have news for them. I'm sure he used the phrase "dominant from 2001 on" once in a full column, then they just repeated it in their blurbs. What is more funny to me is that some poor intern at kffl had to go put this piece on non-news on every single Patriots defender.
