Cowboys defensive coordinator Rob Ryan said in an interview with Al Michaels of NBC Sports that he doesn't expect to be an assistant much longer. "My chance will come," Ryan said. "It only took my dad 25 years to get a (head coaching) chance and, hell, he's better than me and (Jets coach and twin brother) Rex put together." He then took a shot at his brother Rex Ryan. "I know (Rex is) one of the most recognizable head coaches in football this year, and things like that," Rob Ryan said. "But, I mean, he's also gone to two AFC Championships games in a row. I mean, I don't think anybody else can say that. So, he's had an opportunity and he's done great with it. I'll be better than him, so I'll get my chance." His defense dominated the Eagles, and held Tom Brady from winning the game at the end the game before, so he is building a pretty good resume the last couple weeks.
Rob Ryan's not going to get a shot at a head coaching job unless he cuts his hair and starts acting a lot more conformist. That's just what it is. Al Davis is the only guy who would have hired him looking and acting the way he does. Rex Ryan is right on the edge of acceptability and if he had the natty dreadlocks look going also he'd never have been hired.
He said he would do the hair deal if he had to but the reason he let's it grow is so he can cut it off once a year for locks of love, so he would be pissed if he had to do that.
He's gotta do it. Being head coach of an NFL team is like being a high-ranking director in a Fortune 500 company. If you don't look the part you won't get the job because people see your face as the face of the franchise.
ive said it before and ill say it again Rob Ryan should make history in being the first HC/Mascot throw him in a bear pelt and let him be the new HC of the Vikings
I didn't know that. Guess that's why he chooses to look like that. But it really shouldn't be an issue. I could see him being interviewed by the Dolphins, for example.
I like Rob Ryan. He's a chip off the old block. I just don't think he'd be as good as Rex, but he will be good for any football team. The league needs more outspoken coaches like this. The tight-lipped politically correct coaches are boring for the game...
I hope not. If he gets that job and the 1st pick we will have to deal with another 15 years of "Marino-esque" torture. Unless of course Luck turns into Suck.
I agree a 100%, this guy has zero chance of being a head coach, he's a fat slob with zero class. And you know what, I am not impressed by his defenses. Rex was a better coordinator.
he chooses to look like that because he looks like the man and doesn't care what people think. I wish Rex would grow out the flow or at least go back to the mullet.
didn't know about the locks of love thing. seriously, very cool. As far as the comments, another poster nailed it... Ryans being Ryans. wish him best of luck, hope he gets a nod at HC - outside of the AFCE (preferably the entire AFC).
I hope not too. But I could see him being considered for the Miami job. Sparano is not a bad coach, but he's in the wrong place at the wrong time. And his team has come oh-so-close to winning several games. But I think he's fucked, just on the record alone, and the Dolphin will make a change I think. If Ryan is free to go after this season (and I don't even know that for a fact), I could see Miami making a serious run for him. They need a change. And that would set up a VERY interesting situation in the AFC East, with brother against brother, head to head.
god, people make such a big deal about his hair. where is it written that you're supposed to have short hair? Grow it down to the floor Rob and give the whole league the middle finger.
I think Rex is more savvy than Rob. Rex often says stuff for effect, and to motivate. It's more planned. Rob just shoots from the hip and 100% believes everythig he says. He's more like his dad. I also think, like his dad, he's destined to be known as a really good DC, and not do well as a HC. Unlike his dad, I don't think he gets a HC shot.
I love Rex, but I can't stand Rob. He's obnoxious, arrogant and irritating. All he does is talk and never backs it up. They couldn't be more different.
Ross wants OFFENSE in Miami above all. He might interview Rob Ryan but he's not going to hire him. He's going to get an "offensive mind" as the next head coach. Cam Cameron 2.0...
