RIP Jimmy Buffett. I think I only ever had one friend that liked his music. He introduced me to the annoying phenomenon that is parrotheads. Like Deadheads that went through a re-education camp.
I won't remember him for his music or his Parrothead movement. Rather his insane, life long loyalties to the Miami Heat. Once he actually got ejected from the arena at a Heat game for talking sooooo much shit to the opposing team. Who here has been ejected from a Jet game? Pussies.
Just saw the show based on his music (Escape to Margaritaville) at the Engeman Theater in Northport last month. It was well-performed, as all of their shows are (one of the leads in their recent production of The Scarlet Pimpernel is now starring as Biff in the Broadway production of Back to the Future), but eminently forgettable. The audience include a few dozen parrotheads. His music never did anything for me, but by all accounts he was a good guy. He was a hell of a businessman, with an estimated net worth of roughly $1 billion (https://www.forbes.com/profile/jimmy-buffett/?sh=3f912e27d946). Two unusual factoids: He owned a bunch of Berkshire Hathaway stock, and he and Warren Buffett called each other "Cousin Jimmy" and "Cousin Warren," although they were not related; and a recently-discovered crustacean in the Florida Keys was named for him (https://www.eurekalert.org/news-releases/996596). RIP.
