His taming of Bubba Smith in SBIII was one of the great individual game achievements in franchise history. Jets probably would not have won. This season we've been impressed by AVT changing positions and maintaining a high level of play. Bubba Smith was considered a monster at the time. RIP Champion.
Yeah me too. My "formative years" as a Jets fan were spent listening to Dave Herman with the great Marty Glickman. In those days it was the only way to follow the game when they were home since most games were blacked out.
So sorry to hear this. Namath couldn't say enough about how well he played in Super Bowl III. Rest in peace.
A great Jet. In later years, I would see him around the Kensico Dam in Valhalla. We'd nod with that silent recogition that two joggers have when passing each other. Although he looked athletic, you would NEVER think he was a former NFL lineman, but he was from the era when powerful legs defined offensive lineman rather than massive upper bodies.
I know. They suffered along with us for so many years, and now they won't get to see the Jets finally return to glory. Very sad.
