Well this is the first of what will likely be many mocks by me, Since alot is still unknown until after the combine I'll only go 3 rounds 1) Kareem Brown DT Miami , big and athletic. Can play the run and pass but due to a lack of experience late 1st might be a bit of a reach. Has potential to be very good but possibly a stretch in the 1st round. 2A) Eric Wright CB UNLV, Started National Championship game as a true freshman and had a pick in the game for USC. Norm Chow is on record as saying he could have started on the Titans as a soph. Had some drug problems but is a shut down CB and IMO would start over both Dyson and Miller. Can also return punts 2B) Michael Bush RB Louisville, Obviously has tremendous ability. I think he has 1st round talent but injuries could push him back to 2nd round. IMO the 3rd best RB in the draft behind Peterson and Lynch. 3 Ikaika Alama-Francis DE Hawaii, tall at 6-5 and at 285 has good size for a DE. The overaul of our DL continues with Alama-Francis. Would sit behind Kimo for a year and would start in 08.
Branch will be gone as will Okoye and Tyler so that leaves Pitcock and Harrell (realistically). So Brown is not that bad a pick. DT looks to be thin on the ground this year so maybe this won't be addresed in the draft at all.
I thought Michael Bush was staying another year in college. Also, do you really want a runningback with a titanium rod in his leg?
Dyson's a #1 in most people's eyes. He was before he came here and he still is. You really want to replace Dyson? By the way, who's the other CB you're starting if Wright is starting over Dyson. I think you gotta go with Dyson and a FA CB like Samuel or Clements, OR a guy like Wright (or even draft Weddle and move him over to CB). No matter what, Dyson starts in my opinion. As for Kareem Brown, I wouldn't want to use a pick on him that high. I would hold off on Brown until at least the 2nd, maybe the 3rd. I can't see him getting drafted in the 1st round, let alone before either of our picks in the 2nd round.
I didn't say I wanted to replace Dyson I said he would start over Dyson and Miller. I would think Dyson would be the #1 and Wright would be the #2 giving us 2 very good CB's and Miller as the NB and KR.
Richmiano8..... Hey I am a UNLV Alumni as well.... you also stated that the Jets should draft Greg Estandia last year.... Eric Wright is not going that high....
Scouts Inc has him as the 20th best player in the draft..... I've also seen him alot lower. I was real high on Estandia but last I heard he was with the Jags practice squad.
can't start a thread yet, so here's my mock draft Kareem Brown is definitely a possibility, but not in the first round. He'd fit in nicely at RDE. Here's my top three rounds: 1. Jarvis Moss, Florida, DE/LB. I can't believe that he actually will drop this far, but since the mock drafts have him doing so, I'll take him. Would match up very well with Bryan Thomas on the other side. Moss may begin as a backup to Hobson, who will also see time on the inside as Moss earns his stripes. Hobson will become the type of LB who knows all the positions and can slide from one to the other as situation/matchup warrants. Moss also can contribute immediately on special teams, as he blocked some big kicks this year. 2a. Michael Griffin, DB, Texas. Versatility at S/CB could step into the nickel role immediately and be a potential starter at either safety spot or CB. Also will be a special teams contributor immediately. 2b. Tony Ugoh, OT, Arkansas. Very athletic and played against top competition in the SEC for a team that had tremendous success running the ball. He can play RG or RT. 3. Ryan McBean, DE, Oklahoma State. Seems a great fit for RDE. Has the size and bulk required for the 3-4 with good athleticism. COMMENTS: I see RB as a need, but it's a need that can be addressed late in drafts in general or even in free agency. A guy I love is Alabama's Kenneth Darby, who had a down senior year but is the same type of steady RB that Curtis Martin was. The most tempting of the RB rumors I've read on this site is the possible availability of Lamont Jordan--he'd make a very dynamic partner to Washington. Turner is too expensive, Leonard is too limited, and I fear Michael Bush is not the weapon he seems to be--I simply can't remember any RB that big being success ful in the NFL. Heavy guys, yeah, but 6'3" RB's? I'd be glad to give him a shot, but injecting more talent on the defensive side of the ball is the priority, as is adding more pieces to the offensive line. I always liked Moore, but he regressed this year. So far as NT goes, DeWayne did a very good job at the end of the year. It's true he didn't keep the OL off Vilma, but he made plays and was much more active as the year went on. Another body at NT would be nice, but not the dire need that RDE is. In the 3-4, all linemen are responsible for tying up blockers, and the RDE spot was horrendous in that regard as well. So, my Jet needs are: 1. RDE 2. pass rushing OLB 3. RG 4. DB 5. RB 6. RT 7. NT
I might still be reading it wrong, but I'm still reading it as he would start over Dyson but then Dyson would be the #1. I understand what you're saying about Dyson and Wright being the starters, but then what do you mean he starts over Dyson?
this would be awsome 1) Michael Griffin or Reggie Nelson both safeties can play the pass and run. way more potential than coleman 2a) Lamar Woodley DE/OLB- he's already 270 and a beast 2b) Tony Hunt RB PSU 239 pound bruiser who can BLOCK 3) Brandon Mebane - 6-1 305 hardworker. give him some nfl training and let him put on some pounds and he could play nt
I think Carriker is our guy.Perfect fit at right end for the 3-4.He has embarassed guys at the Senior Bowl practices.
What I am saying is I think he is good enough to be the #1 CB and that is not a knock on Dyson. He would likely be our #1 CB in 2008 with Dyson as the #2.
