You bet your ass Revis will look for it next season: The Seahawks are prepared to make Sherman the NFL's highest-paid corner -- and the deal will surpass Darrelle Revis’s $12M compensation for 2014 -- the questions remains by just how much. Several league sources anticipate the contract will be worth more than $13M a season when finalized, with the Seahawks reluctant to go to $14M thus far. The corner market has undergone a reset in recent years, with Revis' $16 million-a-year deal with Tampa seen as an outlier. Unable to trade that contract, Revis was released and signed with the Patriots for what amounts to a one-year, $12M deal.
And he won't get it, he will be entering his 9th year and he still has to prove he is worth 12 this year.
Oh yeah he will definitely ask for it I just don't think he will get it. He wasn't worth 16 last year and could only get 12 this year. If he doesn't have a stellar year this year he won't get 12 again either.
Revis is better than Sherman, it's not really even close but Sherman is in a great spot in Seattle and will be paid more than he'd get on the market.
How do you figure? Did you read the article? Sources close to Seattle say they are willing to pay up to $14 million.
Yep. I'm going to be shocked if their take away from a 43-8 shellacking of the Broncos was that Sherman was the guy that did that for them. Everybody on that defense was playing great from front to back and that's how they shut down the Broncos. $13M CB is going to make 3 quality starters on that D go away by the time all is said and done.
I expect 14 is based on a short contract. I agree with above that SEA will draft a CB, groom him for 1-2 years and then will try to unload Sherman for as much as they can get, replacing him with young cheap CB.
I don't think Seattle going to pay him that much. From what I hear they like Earl Thomas more then Sherman. Plus they still have to give Wilson his money and he will get paid more then Sherman.
Seahawks that have contracts coming due in 2015 and 2016: Russell Wilson Russell Okung Earl Thomas Richard Sherman Marshawn Lynch Bruce Irvin Brandon Mebane James Carpenter Byron Maxwell Malcolm Smith Doug Baldwin J.R. Sweezy K.J. Wright It's an ugly situation for them after 2014. For 2014 they've still got everything together. Then they have to start doing the numbers and figuring out who they keep and who goes. If they can lock up Earl Thomas at something nearing top of market but not extreme they have a lot more wiggle room than if their first move is to lock up Sherman above top of the market.
I'm betting the Seahawks have an offer on the table that is top of this year's market minus Darrelle Revis. That would be close to $10M a year, which is still pretty pricey for a CB but ok given he's a homegrown product who knows the defense in and out and has proven he can thrive in it. I'm guessing that if Sherman wants the really big deal he'll get it elsewhere, with a draft day deal to somebody who might give him that deal a distinct possibility.
Doubt it. Everywhere you read is saying that Seattle is looking at paying him around $13 Million a year. I have not read anything about $10 million
This guy is good, but he def benefits from the talent around him. I can't stand Deangelo Hall but he made good points about Sherman. Great pass rush plus good safeties makes the CB job a lot easier. I think Revis is a lot better than Sherman as a cover corner, with Sherman probably being the better playmaker.
Some of those players will be replaced via the draft for sure (Mebane, Smith, Wright [maybe] and Irvin for example). What will be interesting is Russell Okung's future with the team. When healthy, the dude is a monster but he's flag / injury prone. Seahawks might be able to make this work ... Lynch (going to be old), Carpenter (not that good). I still would give Earl Thomas an extension ASAP to keep him and Cam together.
Because Seattle negotiates in the open like that with their intentions clearly stated? Show me a quote from Carroll or Schneider saying they're looking to pay Sherman $13M a year and I'll buy it. Short of that it's just people guessing and manipulating, as usual.
I'm not saying that but when multiple sources are being quoted saying they are looking to pay him near $13 Million you have to listen. That's a HUGE difference from $10 million
