1) Marcus McCauley CB Fresno: Has potential to be shutdown CB we desperately need 2) Tank Tyler DT NC State: Boom or bust but could be very good if puts in more effort which would be the only option with Mangini 2) Ikaika Alama-Francis DE Hawaii: Another guy to throw into the fold at DE but could end up being the starter. Has good presence to get into the backfield and disrupt things 3) Manuel Ramirez OG Texas Tech: Great run blocker and average pass blocker but is an absolute beast of a man. 4) Traded to SF for Barlow (conditional) I don't know on what though 5) Steve Smith WR USC: Not really a "Mangini" guy but could be a very good #3 WR. Has great hands and is definately a possesion WR 6) Clark Harris TE Rutgers: Not really my favorite TE and maybe I'm thinking he will fall this far because I don't really think he'll be anything more than a backup. 7) Josh Swogger QB Montana: Missed alot of time due to a foot injury but is a leader, transfered from Wazzou but was an above average QB in the Pac 10 when he was healthy. Real big too at 6'5 and 235
Not a huge McCauley fan, at least not in the first round where he's projected to go. I don't see Mangini taking a guy like Tyler as perfect as me may fit, I'd almost prefer Mebane in the 3rd round . Ramirez has the size and mauling style I like and if he improved his technique could be a perrenial pro bowler. I like Francis but his recent injury (torn pectoral) concerns me a bit.
I'm a fan of the middle of your draft. A CB that lacks production that badly in his final college season should have red flags throwing up everywhere. I wouldn't draft such a huge question mark at CB that early. If you're getting a CB in the 1st round, there should be several better options early in the draft (although I'd almost prefer Josh Wilson in the 2nd or 3rd out of MD). As for Tank Tyler, hate to say it, but the Mangini guy thing is definitely going to keep him off this team. I guarantee we do not draft him. WAY too many issues. Not saying he doesn't have the ability, but he doesn't work hard and it shows. Mangini won't gamble with him. I love the Alama-Francis and Ramirez picks. I feel like Alama-Francis is going to be on this team and I wouldn't be surprised if Ramirez is at all. What character issues does Steve Smith have? I never heard of anything, so I'm just curious, because I always liked him and I think he's going to be a solid producer. Although I think he's going to get drafted higher than the 5th round. If Rhema McKnight is available in the 5th, I'd love to snag him up as a slot receiver. He won't amount to much more than that, but he has the makings of a very strong slot receiver. I don't know nearly enough about Clark Harris's skills, but from what I hear of him, I wouldn't be disappointed with him in the 6th at all. Josh Swogger? Never heard of him. But why not? Can't hurt.
I have to agree with you in that I like the middle of the draft. For our first pick, I'd rather go with either Aaron Ross or Darelle Revis than McCauley. I also don't see much of a point to grabbing both Francis and Tyler, because D-Rob improved vastly at the end of last year and would either be our NT if we grab Francis or shift to DE is Tyler's our man. I'd put money on Francis, however, and maybe grab Lamarr Woodley, Tim Crowder or even Quentin Moses if he ends up free-falling that far for OLB.
Replace Steve smith with mike walker and you got yourself a good mock. Can you guys tell i like talking up the only good thing about UCF football?
I just went up 4 pant sizes after reading that. 1-5 are superb. I would be VERY excited if we somehow manged to draft those guys. Steve Smith is a favouite of mine too and think that he will be very good WR
