If that is the narrative and McCagnan is actually going to listen to that trash then he should be fired. Everyone knew that both Petty and Hackenberg were long shots. That being said a good leader is able to admit his mistakes and not be intimidated by criticism if he/she truly has conviction as to what is right. Do you actually think McCagnan will be influenced by the media knowing that this is likely his last shot? IMO it should be a no brainer to pick a QB this year and dump Hackenberg next year after he stinks it up in TC and sign a veteran.
Probably the best way to salvage something out of the Hackenberg pick at this point is to push him firmly into the background and hope he develops some of the very basic skills that any QB needs to survive in the NFL. Drafting another QB would accomplish that. Anything else is going to leave Hackenberg kind of woefully exposed next year when the Jets established QB cupboard goes empty. Trading for a vet isn't going to be the answer because all the vets likely to be available come with big questions, which is why they're available.
Dude, WTH? Hack showed very good skills as a freshman, with good coaching, he went backwards for a couple of years as he did not click with the new HC. Can we stop throwing guys out like it's recycling day!
Mac already proved he was clueless when he overpaid for Revis, and drafted a late round project QB with a 2nd round pick. Those were the two obvious bonehead mistakes, paying Wilk appears to be a bungle in hind sight. Not addressing the o-line when it was an obvious need, and our crap for a secondary added to Mac's mistakes. How many coach/GM combo's must this organization go thru before we get it right? It needs to be done once again, let's just hope it doesn't take 5 years or more. At this point, blowing it up, looks to be the only way to fix it.
Can we stop throwing away Hack before he takes a god damn snap in the NFL? You wanna know why the Jets never have a franchise qb or a great HC? The fans buy billboards and buy fly over signs that say Fire our GM/Coach. Until this fanbase gets its shit together we will never have a winner. At the first sign of trouble for the Jets we all jump to attack mode and demand we dismantle everything.
It doesn't matter who we trot out there in 2017 if the O line is anything like it was Saturday night.
Brady has actually shown that he's not completely clueless when it comes to being a signal caller. Hackenberg the jury is still ought on. Macc has spent the better part of his life in the film room noting tendencies in players we wouldn't even consider. If he fails here then he'll go back doing a very good job of that somewhere else.
I actually played QB at a D1 school and know what I'm looking at. Hackenberg was an undraftable prospect and since MM never played football I'd say I know more about picking QBs than he does based on his draft record. Hackenberg does not belong in the NFL and dumping him next year would be best for all involved.
Get some talent on this offensive line, continue to have a good RB depth, develop the receivers and see what you have in Hack and Petty. Hack you have to ensure the mechanics are ready to be fixed this off-season. Sign a cheap QB for depth 3rd on the depth chart and not a rookie. Oh and don't fire Gailey, but you can fire the offensive line coach. Keep the receivers / RB coach. I don't think its the right time to have another rookie here.
Yes let's dump our 2nd round draft pick before he takes a snap in the NFL. How have you not been banned for trolling yet?
We were all happy when Revis and Mo resigned. I'm not gonna complain or say that mac is a fool for doing it when we all wanted these players here at the time and the moves made sense.
Mac was a pro personnel guy in Houston meaning that he spent his time scouting NFL players for free agency/camp fodder. He doesn't have any experience drafting players. He may have been in the room before but his opinion never mattered as it wasn't his job.
You realize that fans have zero influence over GM/Coach decisions. Right? Blaming the fan base for the ineptitude of management is silly. However, us fans can see that crap management and coaches produce teams like the one we have this season, and for the foreseeable future. Do you really think Hack is our QB of the future?
there is nothing on this roster stopping mac from drafting a qb in the upcoming draft. drafting a qb in this draft would show that mac understands it is the most important thing this team needs and until you know you have one you don't have one. passing on a qb would be like doubling down on hack and thats not a smart bet.
Come on Junc, it's you isn't it? Your starting to beat your chest like King Kong, pretty soon you will be telling us that your a big dog poster again.
You should get a job in the NFL. For the Jets bro. By all accounts, Hack was getting drafted into that league between the second and fourth rounds. Apparently you, and a handful of other experts on here, knew better than all the scouts throughout the NFL industry. Way before all of them went to his Pro Day, and any of the teams brought him in for private evaluation. I don't know what you're doing on this website. You got mad insight and should take it to the NFL. If only Mac consulted you and the two or three other QB savants on here. It's impressive
How would this CS know if they had one? It's the same staff that takes out OLB Lorenzo Mauldin, to play Sheldon Richardson at his spot as an OLB. There is no way anyone can trust this CS with the development of any players especially the QB position, based on what they have done. Tom Savage came in and saved the season for the Houston Texans, Tom Savage!!!!! The jets can't figure out what to do with 4 QBs!
Gailey isn't a popular guy here right now, but I think they need to keep him or give the QB coach the reigns. If you make the QBs learn a new terminology at this time, you have a much higher chance of having 2 busts on your team. Gailey's offense is good, if they were to turn it over to Kevin Patullo the QB coach [in terms of playcalling] and fill that position with a good coach, I would be on board. Even have Gailey as some sort of consultant.
