Seems particularly relevant considering Rex playing starters entire half tonight. From NY Post: Amid the surprising amount of trash talk between the Giants and Jets leading up to tonight’s preseason debut of New Meadowlands Stadium was an interesting little aside about Rex Ryan from Giants safety Deon Grant. As an 10th-year veteran, Grant has been around and knows a lot of players. So when Grant says that some unnamed Jets players have complained to him that Ryan is wearing them out with his overly demanding and overly physical training camp, it shouldn’t be dismissed as just idle chatter. It’s not difficult to see where Ryan would get this philosophy, either: His father, Buddy Ryan, was known for brutal training camps, particularly at the end of his coaching career with the Cardinals – with a young Rex as one of his assistants -- in the mid-1990s. As a Browns beat writer for the Akron Beacon Journal at that time, I witnessed it all first-hand when we went to Phoenix for joint practices in August of 1995 and saw Buddy practicing the Cardinals in 115-degree heat in the middle of the Arizona summer. The only concession to the heat that I observed was the Cardinals being allowed to wear white practice jerseys. The Cardinals finished 4-12 that season, Buddy was fired, and they now camp full-time in Flagstaff, Ariz., which is about 50 degrees cooler this time of year. While heat isn’t a big factor in Rex’s current camp with the Jets, the physicality of it is. The amount of hitting going on with Gang Green is a throwback, and not necessarily a good one – especially with the potential five-game death march that opens the Jets’ regular season. If he's looking for longevity, both for his team and his job, Ryan should borrow a page from Jeff Fisher, who runs a "Club Med" training camp in which practices are never more than two hours long but still has his team always ready to play. Oh, and not coincidentally, Fisher is the longest-tenured coach in the league
WTF are they talking about? I was at Training Camp on Saturday and both times players were let out early. They looked relaxed, too. This dude is full of shit.
Mangini ran tough, grueling camps. Rex gave the veterans a day off to preserve them. Other coaches run just as tough of a camp. This comes up every year for one team in the NFL.
I believe it has to be a bit of a mix. If you don't hit at all during camp, then it makes it hard to just turn it on when the game comes around. But, injuries and just general wear can occur if it is always "live." We'll see where camp goes from here. Also, players are always going to complain about training camp.
Rex is doing just fine. If you want to start a conversation about John Conner running too hard a training camp, I'll listen. On a side note- fuck Jeff Fisher. I know he's a quality coach, but I don't want to hear about the Gospel of Stache. His boss and Vince Young saved ol' Jeff from a pink slip last season. Maybe if Jeff wasn't running "Club Med," his players might be more prepared for the extreme stress that comes with light booing.
I agree that this article is stirring it up for the sake of it....BUT I think this may gain steam considering Rex played his starters for longer than most teams do in first pre-season game.
First game at the new stadium, against the Giants no less, who are talking more shit than the Jets are now...if any player complains about being on the field too long in this game, they deserve an Eli hit and I don't want them on this team.

A bunch of bullshit...why not come to camp in shape and then you wouldn't have to work so freaking hard while your there....I watch my son's PEEWEE practices which last 2 hours for 3 nights a week and these kids want more. What a bunch of over paid whinny ass bitches!
Shit. Try working a full week and keeping up a heavy posting schedule on TGG every day. Now THAT's real work.
Pete Carroll had the Jets playing pick up basketball at his one and only NYJ training camp. That worked out well....
