No wonder we couldn't draft well when these two were here. Rex was more interested in his damn wings than interviewing the prospects. And of course created a mess.
Tannenbaum's interview is useless because he doesn't say the players' names. Why not? He's out of the game now, man up and say it. If nothing else it makes the story more interesting for the readers. Some of them aren't even negative stories, some of them are positive representations of the players.
I read the whole story - a pile of ants forming on the floor.....good grief. How unprofessional......imagine what those players thought watching that?
He mentioned a top 15 defensive player in one of his stories. That may well have been Darrell Revis....
I like chicken wings too. In fact, if we EVER play in the Super Bowl, EVERYBODY on the board is hereby invited to my place for wings. Even Petro!
What the hell kind of shithole was the room in Indianapolis that dropping the remains of wings on the floor results in "a mountain of ants" showing up? Were they interviewing people in the dorm room of some college sophomore who hadn't cleaned since moving in at the beginning of the year? I'm pretty sure most people here could drop an entire Thanksgiving dinner on their kitchen floor and leave it there for a few hours and "a mountain of ants" wouldn't miraculously show up out of nowhere.
My guess is ants follow Rex around. They probably have scouts on him all the time and as soon as something hits the floor the whole tribe shows up.
It was obvious as hell that Tanny’s drafts suffered once Rex got here. If they could have moved Mangini to be assistant GM and kept Rex out of personnel decisions maybe that could have been the secret sauce. Mangini would probably never have gone for that though, but it was obvious he was better at picking talent than coaching them.
I agree Quinnen, but unfortunately I don't think Mangini's massive ego would have permitted him to accept that assistant GM role.
His story didn’t specify which year this specific player was drafted. Remember Tanny was around during the Mangini years.
story said rex was eating chicken wings, so it could not be revis in a scouting combine meeting as he was already on team
No click on the article. It shows the whole interview. There were several questions and stories and this particular story Mangini was mentioned. It’s just a guess on my part - not sure why after all these years Tanny doesn’t just tell us who he’s talking about.
Jets horrible drafting started with Tannenbaum. When Mangini was coach, we had phenomenal drafts. Then Rex becomes coach and the drafts became absolute shit. Tanny drafted who the coach wanted, was not a personnel guy. Then Idzik and Maccagnan continued with horrible picks. 10 years totally wasted
