Whether you like his bravado or not, or the way he hypes this defense up more than he should at times, this is now the 2nd offense (Pats/Bills) that Rex has created a perfect blueprint for how to beat. Yeah, he said the Steelers played it last week vs the Pats, but let's face it, it was there the week before vs Dallas also, and I think we all know where Rob Ryan got many of his ideas for that game.

The Pats offense was considered unstoppable last year and Rex shut them down and confused Brady all day, as he now has in 4 of 6 matchups against them in his career (I still blame the 8 3 and outs on the offense for why the Pats scored as much as they did and not the defense). The previous week of last year's playoffs he forced Manning and the Colts into some seriously questionable playcalls and also confused him more often than not.

Now he has taken this vaunted Bills spread offense and made them look pathetic. Averaging 30.1 pts per game at home, holding them to 11 with 8 in garbage time was a credit to how well this defense was preparred and in the right position all day to make plays.

Again, say what you want about Rexy, but I still say there is NO offense in this league he can't put together a gameplan to stop. If we take on GB in the Super Bowl (long ways away I know), I think many people will be suprised.

As much shit as Ryan gets from fans and media around the league, I've never heard anyone seriously question his reputation as one of the greatest defensive coaches in the sport.

One of the talking heads last night was complimenting Rex about how he's escalated to one of the top defensive minded coaches in the league. Even hinting the fact that he has supplanted Belicheck at the top for defense.

Fortunately it wasn't one of the flip flopper talking heads, it was someone that usually supports the Jets. Can't remember whom. Dilfer maybe?

I can't view ESPN vids from work to confirm...

Not sure if there is a "blueprint" per se to beat any team. Teams always adapt, if the Steelers ran the same shit they did the other week vs NE in a rematch they'd probably get carved up.... I think it's clear you have to mix coverages or play at least some man to slow down the Patsy offense, though. RRs defenses have always given Brady trouble, it became apparent to me Week 2 2009.

I think we are one of the only teams that is equipped to stop Green Bay. The Jets have a knack for stopping high powered "finesse" type offenses. Green Bay doesnt have much of a running game, yet Rodgers is able to overshadow this with phenomanal QB Play. Green Bay may be undefeated, but they also have a pretty dismal secondary. I would love to see this matchup, it has the potential to be a great battle.

We held GB and Rodgers to 3 field goals last year. That game should have been much closer than it was... that was the game where keller had the ball ripped out of his hands while he was down, and also when weatherford tried to convert a 4th and 18.

I believe you are right. The interesting thing is they were talking about how big Bill was supposed to be this great defensive mind and his defense is nothing special and hasn't been in a few years. Was nice to pay Rex a compliment while digging bill for not correcting the issue in NE the last few years.

I dunno, their safeties aren't anything special but I don't think there are many teams who wouldn't be happy to have Woodson and Williams at corner.

Im not one to throw around Stats, but the Packers are currently 31st in the league against the pass, you can say "oh its because they are always leading and teams need to make up ground", but they are still averaging 300 yards a game in the air. the only reason they are not in the cellar is because NE's secondary is complete garbage.

They have also given up 16 tds which is good for 2nd most in the league, but they do generate a decent amount of turnovers (16ints on the year), but both stats could be "inflated" by the fact that they are always leading.

They may have talented corners, but they arent playing great ball as of late, and its hard to argue otherwise..

Our defense shitted on Aaron Rodgers last year. I KNOW we can shut down the Packers, we saw it last year.

Rex was just talking about that game this past week, because it was last year's post-bye game. He pointed out that one FG Green Bay got was off the Weatherford goof and another we basically gave them at the end of the game when we had to go for a 4th down deep in our own end down 6-0. So in essence our D held them to one earned FG the whole game.

As for the OP, I agree. Rex can back up his talk because he's a great defensive coach and of course he has the players to work with.

Rodgers was a ghost in that game, their whole offense was. The points they got had nothing to do with their offense. It was off of the fake punt, which put them in FG range. Then the stripped interception which put them in fg range. And the 3rd FG was because our offense was stopped on 4th down.

We would rape Rodgers if their was a round 2.

speaking of the packers, i really think we're one of the few teams in the league that can match up with them. They have a ton of weapons and aaron rodgers gets the ball out quick but we have the secondary and scheme to give them trouble. there's really no defense that's built like us and can do the things that we do with revis, cromartie and wilson

I think the Saints offense can keep up with them and have enough corners to make a play here and there, but other than that no team can really match up that well with them
