How can we have a coach on the hotseat if we are trying to groom a rookie QB? Rex has now put real pressure on Geno to improve drastically starting next week, which in my opinion is asking a lot for any QB heading into his 5th game. None of us were pleased with the way Geno played but at the same time rookies QBs having growing pains. Some more than others but if Rex's job was safe, I do not believe we would have seen him as upset with the QB play. We are setting ourselves further back by not having the head coach position set. Rex is feeling the pressure because his job is on the line, this is going to effect Geno because now every pass he makes, his job might be on the line to. This is just not the way to go about improving and growing your team. None of us really know what exactly is going on behind closed doors but if Rex's job is really on the line, its a complete mistake. Either a new head coach should have been brought in or Rex should have been given the security. I really do believe his job is on the line based on the comments he made about Geno having to play much better.
Rex on the hot seat IMHO is fabricated media BS. See: http://forums.theganggreen.com/showthread.php?t=79060 Geno made a lot of boneheaded plays. not just rookie mistakes. Rex is upset at the QB and has every right to be, Even Geno knows he needs to be better then he was yesterday.
The coaching staff is excellent imo. The depth chart is the problem, they are asking Rex to make chicken soup out of chicken shit.
INT's are rookie mistakes, he has to hang on to the football. After the last 3 games, Rex should be on the block. 30 penalties called in the last 2 games is ridiculous.
If Geno plans on elevating himself higher than Snatchez did, then the first thing he needs to do is stop turning the fucking ball over. Rookie mistake or not, stop tripping into the end zone while being chased backwards, hang on to the ball, and stop trying to extend plays that aren't materializing. Run forward for a yard or throw the ball away. This was a problem with Mark that never got corrected. If this continues with Geno, then he will be replaced as well.
I guess 9'ers should be looking for a new coach then as well? 2-2 and only 5 less penalties with one of the more loaded rosters in the league. Harbaugh better get his resume ready.
Because Rex puts the defense in great positions to be successful? We have a proven OC in Marty? We fire Rex, more than likely Marty will go along with him. Then the next coach will hire Todd Haley as an OC and everything will go back to shit.
Unlikely Marty leaves, he has more years on his contract than Rex I believe. It would not even shock me if he is next in line for the Head Coach job. Anyone know exactly how man years Marty was given? I cant seem to find anything.
If we bring an offensive minded HC - he will install his own offensive philosophy, Marty may not be part of those plans. And Marty for HC? That would prob be one of the worst decisions the Jets can make. Marty proved with the Lions that he's not HC material. Not sure how many years Marty has with the Jets also - I tried looking that information up, nothing available.
Its not my idea for Marty as HC but I have heard it suggested because of the circumstances. If he does have more years than Rex than that might mean something. Idzik picked him so who knows tbh.
that is the key right there. firing Rex sets back the defense and further sets back the offense. the only way it happens is if the offense is so putrid Idzik deems he needs an entirely new offense anyways. but if Geno develops and improves this season the last thing we need to do is hire a new head coach and bring in a new offensive philosophy, and that is likely the case if Rex is fired.
Should we finish 2-14 and we are competitive in those games it doesn't matter to me! Rex needs to keep his job for the sole fact the defense has been so good. With Rex gone the defense will take a step back despite the same talent...can you blame Rex that geno is throwing to a group of wide receivers this week named Jeremy kerley, Clyde gates, Ryan spadola and David Nelson off the street! Even when healthy Holmes is average at best and Stephen hill isn't good! We need to keep Rex through the end of next year at least because this draft needs to address at least 2 wideouts in the first 3 rounds
This is most likely. Unless this team gives up on Rex, it's hard to see a future where he's not the HC of the NYJ. (At this moment, that appears to be a good thing.)
All the "experts" coming into the season had us instantly written off. Not the case. As long as this team remains competitive Rex should be just fine.
Bill Parcells and BB are both Defensive coaches. Their entire teams are a reflection of their coaching philosophy. The Jets don't have a HC in Rex Ryan who has a fundamental grasp of what the NY Jets should look like on the field. When he had a junior league OC in Shottenheimer he had the balls to man up and tell him to run the fucking ball and put a color coded band on Sanchez wrist. He brought in Soprano to run the ball down people's throats and Soprano screwed up the OL blocking scheme. Now we have MM a decent OC but does he really fit in with Rex's vision for the team? Does Rex have the balls to change things? I think Rex is in a box right now and he has to retake control of the team, all phases. If he can't he's gone. A boss at the mercy of his employee isn't the boss and everyone knows it. Bill Parcells wouldn't have any trouble telling MM to run the fucking ball or I'm making the calls. Rex simply can't make the O calls.
WAAAHHH????? This was a Rex pick - not Idz. Rex made up for his horrible decision to go with Sparano last year by picking Morningwood up as his HC. I'm actually kinda glade Haley decided to pass on the Jets when Rex was going for him to sit next to Sparano. It worked out in the Jets favor in the end.
Rex has job security. He's under contract for next season. As long as the Jets don't collapse, particularly at the end of the season, he's probably going to be back with an extension in the off-season. Giving him an extension right now would probably be unwise. We get another December swoon at the end and that would be three years running at that point.
