Taken from today's NYDN: Oh well, guess its the Predatory Jet Hating NY Media going after Rex Ryan again with questions. Lets hope Rex learned something from last year and doesn't put Vick in during garbage time. Since Vick is getting precious few reps with the first team, I'm not sure how they plan to have Vick ready to play with the starters if they had too. Perhaps they're banking on Vick being a vet and just picking up the chemistry with the first team as they go. Who knows... Damn Jet Hating NY Media.
Thank you media for reminding Rex Ryan of what happened last year. I don't feel comfortable having Vick in there with the 2s. It would be nice to at least get Mangold / Brick off the field and continue having other offensive lineman and skill position players from the 1st team. Eli and the first team offense got a lot of reps in that first preseason game.
So true Rex didn't say anything wrong. I also believe when Sanchez got hurt, Rex and Idzik wasn't convinced Sanchez would be the starter. But more than anything, FJF is so right. If media is going after last year's controversy, things are going good in Jets land this year.
This really shouldn't be a story. Unlike last year, where Sanchez and Geno both needed reps to learn the new system, Geno needs more 1st team reps to better acclimate himself to it. Vick has already played in the system for 3 seasons before, so he needs less 1st team reps. Point is, when time comes, Vick will be ready (IF it comes). I don't anticipate either Geno or Vick playing in the 2nd half of most preseason games, to be honest
That is obviously why Mark was inserted into the game. He wanted Mark to look good and seal the deal since no one had looked great in-game up to that point. If he really thought Mark had done enough and inserted his #1 QB in at the time he did, he is even dumber than I give him credit for being.
the reason he put him in was b/c of Idzik and the fake competition. mark was good but even if he wasn't it was clear to anyone watching Geno wasn't ready to play and he proved that through the first 3 qtrs. of the season. Rex was starting mark, there wasn't a competition.
That's exactly what I said last year. But people wanted to believe that "Sanchez already won the competition and Rex just wanted to win the game"
stop it, what would him going in during the 4th qtr prove? there was never a competition, mark was by far the better QB but the man w/ the power wanted Geno just like there's no competition this year.
If you believe that, then I don't know how you can support Rex (or Idzik) being on the Jets, as that is the dumbest thing I have seen in professional football. Beyond terrible. Embarrassing actually that those two run my favorite football team. Not to mention the effect it had on Mark Sanchez.
Their job is not to worry about mark Sanchez, it's to worry about the franchise. Idzik wasn't playing to win in 2013, he was setting the franchise up to win in the future. He wanted to see what he had in geno and sitting on the bench wasn't going to be able to help him evaluate him. If the competition was real Mark easily won it but there wasn't a competition. Remember, rex was neutered last year. we didn't have cocky Rex, he was in fear of losing his job.
So the Jets football season starts this Thursday, and this is what is being reported. Jets really do have some of the worst beat writers. Asking about a player who is no longer on the team.
Great point about 2013 Rex. He was on his best behavior. As for Idzik setting up the future, of course it looks like the right move now, as Geno has experience going into year 2. Still, it was a really terrible way to handle Mark and the so called "QB Competition". It worked out for all parties in the end, as Idzik has the QB he wants, Rex kept his job, and Sanchez is apparently stronger than ever and on a new team with a fresh start. Still, on that night, I have never been more upset with the Jets.
Sanchez hadn't won anything at the point he was inserted in that game. He'd looked better than Geno but very shaky himself in the process. Rex gave him a shot to stave off the inevitable, which was his exit from the Jets, and instead he got hurt. That's the breaks.
No matter what you say even if they wanted Geno to start (which was probably true) 1. They wouldn't waste valuable reps and they would've given Geno at least 75% of the snaps. 2 if Sanchez was clearly better as you say, they wouldn't have put in their clear starting QB in the game. Smh at coming up with conspiracy theories to justify your delusions.
