Jets coach Rex Ryan reached back Wednesday for the Super Bowl of motivational ploys.

"He put up a big picture of the AFC (Championship) trophy, he said, 'Guys, we're gonna do this, we're gonna win this, and this trophy's gonna be here forever,'" Matt Slauson said. "When you come back and bring your kids here, you'll be able to show them that, and say, 'I won that.'"

    The auditorium caught fire.

"Oh, everybody was stoked," Slauson said. "And he also said, 'Next week, we come in, we'll be fitted for AFC rings, it'll be awesome,' and everybody was just stoked."

This is why we love Rex Ryan. He is a motivational wizard continuously pulling things out of his magic bag of tricks to inspire his team.

It's funny how everyone knows how hard it is just to get to a Superbowl, but I can't think of another sport where nobody either remembers or cares about the team that loses the championship more than football. Just think about most of the teams that have lost a Superbowl in the past 20 years. They became almost instantly irrelevant.

Yep, no one remembers the loser except under extreme circumstances. Everyone remembers the 07 Patriots, everyone remembers the 1990-1993 Buffalo Bills.

Otherwise, how many Super Bowl losers can you randomly list off without thinking about it?

Damn I just want that one ring SO BADLY.

It would solidfy Mark Sanchez and Rex Ryan FOREVER. Rex Ryan can say whatever he wants for the rest of his life and people will have to take note of it and they have to take him serious.

    Just one ring!!!!

People really don't remember Superbowl match ups? Really?

If you said "Wide Right" no one would know what team was involved?
Or no one remembers Kevin Dyson's out stretched arm against the Rams?

That is a bunch of bullshit.

Wouldn't it be cool if they issued cheap Super Bowl ring replica's for the fans? After waiting 40 yrs, I think I might have earned one, albeit an aluminum ring with cubic zirconium diamonds.

I think those fall under the "extreme circumstances" criteria mentioned above. Face it, nobody cares about # 2. Bring home that Lombardi trophy Rex!

But those are games that had the last play dictate the outcome.

But the mundane SBs, its not always easy to remember the loser.

I have a good memory for nonsense like this so maybe I'm the wrong person to ask but it's pretty easy for me to remember the SB losers, heck I can remember the conf title game losers going back to the first SB year I can remember.

Let's face it, you can't get the Lombardi until you win the Lamar Hunt trophy first. One goal at a time...I like it.

Then you're an exception. That's truly impressive.

I can name all the ones I've seen in person, but to go back to the 70s before I existed is tough to do.

The first SB I can remember watching part of was SB XV, the first one I really watched was SB XVI but I can name the SB losers from I-XIII and I can remember all the conf title losers from those other seasons.

who gives a shit about the runner ups? We have one short term goal in mind,

    and one long term goal

Victory is all that matters, and all we care about.
