FLORHAM PARK, N.J. - New York Jets coach Rex Ryan and several of his players are among thousands of New Jersey residents still without power in their homes in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy.

Ryan said Monday as the team returned from its bye week that his home in Summit has yet to get power back. He recognizes he is in the same situation as many others in the area recovering from the hurricane and its aftermath.

Ryan stressed to his players in a morning meeting that "obviously you have to take care of family, that's first and foremost. Yourself probably second and this team third."

"But in this situation, our players aren't any different than anyone else in the community, and that's the way it should be. Those are things that everybody in the area has to deal with and our players aren't exempt of that," Ryan added.

Wide receiver Chaz Schilens is among the players who had no power. Schilens stayed in the area during the bye and was relieved that the Jets had generators to run their practice complex. His power returned Friday.

"I actually came in here," he said. "I was thankful this place had power and thankful I had a place to go. It was great to have it open, and they had food here."

Center Nick Mangold's home remains without power.

"It was a different kind of bye week," Mangold said. "But it could've been a lot worse."

No generators? if I had their money I'd have one of those deals that automatically starts up when the power goes off.

I live in the sticks here in Maine and have my generator at the ready because we lose power a couple times a year (mostly winter).

My neighbor has one of those ones that starts up automatically. I hate him.

Yeah it's cool and good to have a generator but u have to believe half these guys maybe rent during the season around the area. I don't know the figures but I'm sure most the players don't live in the area full time. Therefore there isn't a need to buy a generator...

I JUST WANT THE POWER TO COME BACK! I think i'm going crazy. It has been over a week now, I don't remember ever having no electricity for this long. I will never take my television, lights, and hot water for granted ever again!

I doubt Rex Ryan is without power or heat. Hes either checked his family into a hotel or hes living at Florham Park.

Yeah it sucks. Still no power at my place either. It's getting cold and I don't like the idea of leaving my cat there alone in the cold. I tried getting a camp fire going the other night but it's still really windy, so it was basically me running around stomping out all the sparks and flaming debris flying all over the place with every gust of wind.

Hope you guys get back to some sense of normalcy ASAP! In today's world it is hard to imagine functioning without electricity for more then a few days at most.

At this point, why are electric companies still not using underground wiring? It makes way more sense than having power lines up in the sky where they can easily be damaged. Lazy ass bullshit, yet they continue to raise rates and use the same old band aide fixes they've been using for decades. Fuck them.

After Wilma, I was out of power for only a week. Thanks goodness a cold front came through after that storm. Since then I bought a generator and have yet to use it.
