Rex said McKnight had some anxiety and had some drops but looked good running the ball. Kyle Wilson looked great, very happy with him. #86 Cumberland looked great catching the ball, not sure about his blocking #47 Corey Raymer (think that's his name?) stood out, very smart player. Kevin Vaspit looked good on Special Teams, jumped out at Rex. So did John Conner and Kyle Wilson in a special teams drill Westhoff uses.
Santonio Holmes has been great at team facilities, studying film and working with Sanchez. From what Rex understands, he thinks this plane incident isn't nearly as big of a deal as it's being made to be. Rex says the version of the story he got is much different than what's being reported on the internet and stuff. Donovan Warren is trying out as a safety. Smart kid, working at both spots corner and safety, but best shot will be as a safety. Warren was on the Jets draft board, and was highest rated undrafted player.
McKnight has a lot of talent, looked like he was trying to do too much today. He can run and spread out wide, lots of different things he can do. Reporter asks about him wearing #25 and comparisons to Reggie Bush, pretty funny, Rex looks confused and doesn't care at all. Says they'll change it if its a big deal and it never crossed his mind. In regard to chemistry, Rex says every year is a new team anyway. Last year they replaced more starters than they did this year. Expects the offense to improve, 20th in the league is not acceptable and he thinks the moves they made will help the offense improve. Rex isn't worried about team chemistry, his team will always play hard (love that quote)
Rex loved Thomas Jones and Alan Faneca, they were huge for us last year. But they were replaced now and Rex expects it all to come together. Didn't want to stay status quo, thought they could get better as a team. Lots of factors went into the moves they made, but the main thing is he came here to win, not to be average (another awesome quote. Gotta love Rex) Question from reporter about changing offensive philosophy.. Rex says we will always be ground and pound, but now have a chance to do more in the passing game. When we get all those receivers out there on the field, it's tough for any defense to stop it. Santonio Holmes always killed Rex's defenses, so he knows he's a really talented player.
LT is gonna give us everything he's got and Rex is looking forward to seeing him out there. Jason Taylor is gonna help close out games, pass rushing in the 4th quarter, that's how you win games. Question about Adalius Thomas interest? Rex asks if he's allowed to talk about him without getting in trouble. Rex says they'll always take a look at available players. Adalius is a special player who can play numerous positions. He knows AD had his best seasons with Rex in his system. He says it's fair to say that they'll let the market for him determine itself then take a look at him. Rex says if they get him they'll be #1 on Defense, and they'll be #1 if they don't get him.
Ducasse looked good out there.. very big strong kid. Knocked a guy back 8 yards on a run play that really caught Rex's attention. He was anxious and nervous out there, had some false starts. He knows these kids heads are spinning, new place, new league.. just wants them to have fun. Ducasse is learning a new stance and a new position, he thinks he will be just fine.
And that's it.. another entertaining Rex press conference as usual. Tried to get all the main points in here. A bunch of players are flying out to watch the Mayweather fight, including Santonio. The big things were that the Santonio thing is overblown, he thinks the team chemistry questions are not going to be a problem, and the interest in Adalius Thomas.
Hahaha, dumbass Jane McManus asked Rex about all of the players at the draft hugging Goodell and asked if that said anything about the relationship between the fans and the commissioner. Rex is like: 'Well the commissioner is a good guy but I haven't hugged him yet so I really can't tell you.'
