Posted on NFL.com Jets CB Darrelle Revis vs. Buffalo WR Lee Evans Evans is averaging 20.5 yards per catch this season on 31 catches for 637 yards. In the past four games against the Jets, Evans has 408 yards and 2 TDs. The two touchdowns covered 85 and 77 yards. If you didn't know who he was, you'd think you were watching a young Torry Holt of the Rams. Evans is a football player with track speed. He can get down the field and put tremendous pressure on the defensive backs -- and he has very good hands. In his five-year career, Evans has only dropped 5 percent of the passes thrown his way. He's caught at least one pass in all but one game for his career, and no player in Bills history has more catches, yards and TDs over his first four seasons. Revis is a second-year player who had three interceptions as a rookie in 2007 (including the first of his career against Buffalo) and already has three more this season. He has very good ball skills and plays cornerback with a linebacker's mentality. He led the Jets with 77 solo tackles last year. He's very athletic -- he was a high school quarterback as well as a first-team all-state basketball player. He's very competitive, and that has shown when he's matched up against the best receivers in football. In his short career, Revis has turned in good games covering the likes of Randy Moss and Terrell Owens.
Revis wins hands down. Evans is no Moss or Owens, and Revis has handled both of them well. Elam shall be nowhere near Revis this entire game. But knowing Sutton, he'll pair them up again.
THis is one of those marquis matchups in the NFL to watch this week. Usually, QB's don't throw a lot to Revis side because he's got his guy locked down. But, if he's on Evans all game Buffalo is still gonna want to hit Evans because he's a big part of what they do. It's the classic 'irresistable force against the immovable object' matchup. I see them trying some type of trickery to shake him loose down the sideline.
That's the problem with Elam, I think he's very coachable in the sense that he'll do exactly what you tell him to do. The downside being that he's the type of guy who will do exactly what you tell him. Sutton: Ok, Abram, I want you to go out and tackle the guy with the ball... [Revis and Evans wrestle for the ball] [Elam hits Revis] Sutton: Ooh, I should have worded that better. Mangini: Yea, remember when you told him to grab a seat in your office and he just stood there clutching the chair?
Love this matchup. Not only is Revis one of the best already, but you can bet from a competitor's mentality, he'll want redemption by shutting Evans down.
There won't be any excuses because it won't happen, as long as Revis is matched up against him the entire game.
Revis will prevail in this battle. This is his 3rd game seeing what evans can do and he will be ready. It seems like evans has burned us for long td's for the last 4 games we played the bills. Revis will put an end to this trend! The first time Revis got burned for a td last year was against dallas on thankgiving day. Freaking TO of all people. Thats not bad for a rookie.
'Wake up, honey, your alarm has been going off for 20 minutes'. The only way Evans gets 100 yards is if Revis is covering someone else. Please watch how many times your QBs go after #24 this weekend. Then you will understand.
