With a mini bye and the timing of IR, I believe the Jets will have Becton, Mims, Bell, and Perriman back and in the lineup. Zuniga has been eligible to return since last week, but I’m not surprised he wasn’t activated on a short week even if he was fairly healthy. I’m not sure what his timeline is, but we could see him on the field. The same is true for Patrick Onwuasor. Again, I don’t know his timeline but he has been eligible since last week. Blake Cashman becomes eligible this week. Vyncint Smith had a 5-8 week timeline as of 8/17 which means he is through over 7 weeks by Sunday. So there is a possibility that the Jets could get back: -Le’Veon Bell -Mekhi Becton -Denzel Mims -Breshad Perriman -Patrick Onwuasor -Jabari Zuniga -Blake Cashman -Vyncint Smith All for week 5.
It would be a little unrealistic to expect them all back even with average luck. It is possible though. I would be surprised if at least half weren’t back.
Rusty and some with no NFL experience yet. But it’s not about winning, it’s about seeing what they can do.
Maximus, I realize that there may be a variety of causes for these injuries, but what is your opinion on the situation: is this random dumb luck, poor conditioning, poor field, or something else? seems abnormally high last year and this
Good call. The only thing that's unfortunate is that some of these one year contract guys like Perriman and Onwuasor are probably going to jet at the end of the year.
Well certainly this year is league wide. I’ve been following as many teams as I can and mass injuries are most definitely NOT a Jets only issue. We talked about it a little on the show but the offseason is a slow ramp up in conditioning. Guys train for months before camp, and the preseason gives starters 1 quarter of real ball, then a week of rest and 2 quarters, then a week of rest and 3 quarters, then 2 weeks of rest before game 1. Also in reality the Jets have been quite fortunate with ACL’s, Achilles, or other season ending injuries. Many teams are actually worse off than the Jets. The biggest factor without question is the offseason. Any team that happened to struggle with injuries in 2019 would look bad just because of the nature of 2020 coming directly thereafter. I can’t say the Jets training staff is awesome, because I don’t know, but I guarantee you they are a secondary factor.
Could be a blessing in disguise because ironically, sitting Sam and playing Flacco is the best way to evaluate how good or bad Sam actually is.
Is there anything or anywhere we can look for updates on Cam Clark, Zuniga, Davis and Mims? Really want to see them play.
I'd like to see a few weeks with Bell, Becton, Perriman, and Mims going at full tilt. And it would be a nice experiment to see Flacco for a week or two in there as a measuring stick as well. I suspect it would look like Sam's first year with the foot injury where things didn't feel like they were going well and McCown came in for a few games and all of a sudden we realized that Sam was doing a lot better than we though he was. But that is just a suspicion until we actually see it.
We’ll know when they announce roster moves, which will probably be tomorrow. Most of those guys are on IR at the moment.
Not really. We need to see Sam with a full complement of weapons which seem to be coming back. Now more than ever we need to see Sam on the field to see if he’s any good with some at least average offensive talent.
Even fully healthy, we don't have average offensive talent, and even if we did, it's useless with Gase as coach. At least we know what Flacco is supposed to look like, so how he plays in this hellhole should give us a decent point of comparison for Sam.
