Guys....I'm starting to think staying at the Sheraton Meadowlands was a mistake.....Are there no restaurants in walking distance of the hotel? Do i need to rent a vehicle to acquire McDonald's breakfast? I need to map out a food strategy for this trip....any help would be great.
yeah i say your best bet getting on rt 3 and taking the east rutherford exit to 17, thats where your going to find all your fast food joints and chain restaurants. its right down the road but deff not in walking distance.
you can walk past the old stadium and the race track and that road has a strip club and a charlie browns lol, i think its called paterson plank rd.
Why did you decide to stay near the Meadowlands? Why didn't you get a hotel in the city and just commute to the stadium?
I'm staying for free (my flight is free too)...thru AirMiles. The sheraton just happened to be one of the hotels participating in that program. Since the hotel is across the street from the stadium....I figured it was a no-brainer. I didn't think I'd have to worry about starving though.
You still have to get to the hotel if you fly into JFK or Laguardia you know. But don't worry you won't starve, you can easily survive your trip on tap water (you'll die later though), ice, coffee grinds and pillow mints
I was thinking of taking a cab from Newark airport to the hotel......but if there are no places to eat within walking distance....then a rental car would probably come into play. that's the point i was trying to make. EDIT: pillow mints make a fine meal.
yes, yes it is. the difference between landing in jfk and getting to your hotel during a friday holiday weekend at rush hour and landing in newark 20 minutes from your hotel is ridiculous. harold's, i will try to meet you here for lunch on the saturday. http://haroldsnydelilyndhurst.com/
The hotel should have a freebie breakfst in the lobby... sometimes "Continental," sometimes bigger than that. That will hold you over until Harold's. If you are going to Harold's, there is no place like it anywhere in Jersey. You have to go into Manhatten (Carnegie Deli or Stage Door or wherever) to get the same sandwich. Go for the hot pastrami or the corned beef, like in the picture, but the pic does it no justice... it's even bigger than that. ONE SANDWICH FEEDS TWO GUYS, so watch it. You get over a pound of meat and unlimited trips to the rye bread counter. Get some fries or onion rings on the side and you two will not be able to finish the platter, I guarantee it. You won't eat for 6 hours after that trip.
this Harold's place sounds pretty good....and the pics on their website are encouraging too. Are there any other joints nearby? I like variety.
MBGreen will take 1 sandwich to start and a second for the drive back to the hotel. Don't short on the ketchup!
Ketchup on hot pastrami? Are you out of your freaking mind? Sacrelige! MB, there is nothing... I repeat... NOTHING near the stadium except swamp area, reeds and punks. And I shit you not. On Game Day, hit the lobby again for your danish and coffee, then head over to the stadium because there is lot's of variety over there. I'm not talking hot dogs, I'm saying sausage (hot or sweet) sandwiches, fried clams, Philly Cheesesteak, cheesefries, you name it. If you're looking for gourmet dining though, you're in the wrong area by miles. If you have a car it's a different story. You can always go over to the the Portuguese Section of Newark for decent piella or seafood, or Spirito's in Elizabeth for Italian, or go out on Rte 3. But in the immediate area of the stadium, there is nothing but swamplands, the likes of which would have made excellent training grounds for infantry personnel enroute to the Mekong Delta in 1969.
