Merlin Olsen Died... http://www.cnn.com/2010/SHOWBIZ/TV/03/11/merlin.olsen/index.html?hpt=T2 If you don't know who is, he was apart of the Fearsome Foursome with the Rams, and later on starred with Michale Landon in Little House on the Prairie, Highway to Heaven, and Father Murphy.
If you don't know who he is, you are not much of a football fan. He is one of the best defensive players ever to step on the field.
Here's The NY Times obit which gives more information http://www.nytimes.com/2010/03/12/sports/football/12olsen.html?hpw
FTD I'm pretty sure he is one of the very few high quality players to vere be born in the state of Utah. He will be missed.
Same here. The 1982-83 playoff run for the Jets included a couple of Merlin Olsen games. Well, you got the first sentence written, keep going.
Merlin Olsen was an All Pro every year from 1963 - 1971 and 1973 - 74. He was a 6 time 1st team all pro including 5 straight years (1966-1970) where he was a consensus 1st team All-Pro. He had 94 unofficial sacks. Is regarded as one of the best all-time run stuffing DT's.
i never got a chance to see him play but i have seen that he was an amazing player... my knowledge of him is as an announcer and i was always very impressed with him and enberg. great job and this makes me think back to when i was a kid... he was definitely a different breed. 69 is still too damn young!
