The New York Jets have signed 11 players to reserve/future contracts — RB Alvin Banks, S Darnell Bing, WR David Clowney, CB Manny Collins, OL Stanley Daniels, OL Wayne Hunter, DT Thomas Johnson, LB Jerry Mackey, QB Brett Ratliff, WR Shaine Smith and WR Marco Thomas. The announcement was made by Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum.
I was disappointed Clowney didn't get more of a chance over Brad Smith this year before Clowney got hurt. Clowney has speed to burn. Sorry, I think Brad is a great athlete but he has cement hands at WR despite the jets trying to convince themselves otherwise. Watch the Cowboy game again before posting a rebuttal about how great Brad will be at WR.
I think the signing of Ratliff is as strong an indicator as you will get that we are not changing the offensive system this year.
Maybe, perhaps Ratliff has shown enough to stay on the roster as the practice squad QB, and needs more development before he can take a backup role.
This looks to me too much like the bunch of scrubs they tried to sign last year to improve the difference. Announce somone I have heard of and I will be excited. They better not try that bullshit again this year.
Oh my God people let's use some intelligence here. Every team is signing these future/reserve contracts right now, it happens every year. Most are just for training camp fodder. THE FREE AGENCY PERIOD HAS NOT STARTED YET. THEY ARE NOT ALLOWED TO SIGN FREE AGENTS. Is that clear enough? Can we get a grip for christ's sake? I swear Jets fans love to bitch for the sake of bitching.
Thanks for the link. I like D. Bing a lot. Call me crazy.. Any news is good at this point. I hate this time of the year for football. Blah..
Wayne Hunter was a guy who flew up draft boards out of Hawaii and has done nothing as a pro. He's barely seen the field. The book on him was finesse, excellent pass blocker, needed to get a bit stronger. He's the kind of depth we could use in that he's young and could still develop into something. Stanley Daniels is a guy who got by on athleticism on the collegiate level but needs a lot of technical help. He started for 3 years in the Pac 10, so he could turn out solid. Clowney is a guy that everyone's in love with, but he never really did much. He might just be a measurables guy. I don't think he's got more upside than Brad Smith, or even Chansi Stuckey for that matter. These guys are training camp fodder, but they're not terrible. Some of them might have a shot to stick. -X-
