http://espn.go.com/blog/sec/post/_/id/16387/cam-newton-allegedly-shopped-for-cash Hopefully nothing comes out of it, but either way this only boosts his chances to head to the NFL after this season. To have the nation's leading Heisman candidate go down for benefits will be a pretty bad mark on the NCAA this year, especially if it all happens right before the Iron Bowl.
It's the SEC, he's far from the only one who demanded cash to sign. Although I do think it's suspect that the report came from a rival SEC team. Bit of a vested interest in the outcome of their report probably! =)
Things starting to get a little more shaky for Cambo. The Florida cheating issue and the alleged phone convos with Miss State aren't going to make the rest of this season very easy for the Fightin' Chiziks.
Deny, deny, deny. All the way until they strip Auburn of any wins this season in like 5 years. Who will vote Newton for the Heisman? You can't. They don't want another stripped Heisman.
The Heisman should go to the nation's best player and that's Cam Newton. I don't give a god damn if they have to take it away from him a few years down the road - he's the best player in the country and he deserves it. Of course, Newton won't get the votes he deserves and LaMichael James will probably win it.
Cam has to learn to keep his indiscretions unrelated to football like LaMichael did, then he too can sneak into a Heisman victory.
honestly, who gives a fuck? These schools make a ton of money off these kids. The only people who care are also those who think the playoff system is a bad idea
Actually, the only people who care are those that are afraid that Cam Newton's going to potentially kick their team's ass in the SEC Championship game.
lol i have a friend whos UF Alum and i bust his balls about how UF mightve stood a chance for the Natl Champ if they had Newton since Urban Meyer has failed to change his system to a non mobile QB and doesnt have the WR's consistent enough to even pull it off without one. he keeps harping on the bs he did to get kicked off UF's team. when I keep bringing up the 20+ players arrested under Meyer. he keeps harping on it like Newton is the only one. sour grapes is so funny, especially since i fuckin hate UF
It looks like Auburn could be in some serious shit... it appears that there is a possibility that trustee money was used to lure Newton to Auburn which is beyond a serious violation. If the rumors I have seen have any footing it appears Auburn could lose it's accreditation meaning they would be kicked out of the SEC. What's crazy is they nearly lost it in 2004 and they were still willing to cheat.
I doubt they lose the SEC deal, they make way too much money for them. And Newton will goto the NFL this year, so mehhhh.
They nor the SEC will have any say in that, if they lose accreditation they're basically fucked as an institution of higher learning. This isn't the 1st time Auburn has been exposed doing these types of things. There is another rumor floating around and it reminds me of Dr Strangelove. It's essentially the doomsday device. They got caught so instead of manning up they are going to cooperate with the Feds who actually discovered all of this because these Auburn trustees were being investigated for some shady banking businesses. They are going to go Sammy the Bull on the rest of the SEC. Now obviously this is all worst case scenario type stuff but it goes way beyond Cam Newton.
Auburn will have to forfeit all games Newton played in, as well as any awards he gets. Probably a 3 to 5 year probation, too. Regarding the feds investigating the board, the individuals name in question is Lowder and he runs the school and owns the bank in question.
Wow this shit is deep... really deep. If all of this is true Auburn is going to be destroyed not by the NCAA but the FBI. Here is what I am seeing and hearing. It starts with an FBI investigation into Colonial Bank for misappropriation of TARP funds. The FBI found out about possible gambling fraud involving a local casino. Now there is some noise out there that 5 members of Colonial Bank's upper echelon have served as Auburn Trustees over the last decade. This isn't just about Cam Newton, this has been going on since Pat Dye was coaching, continued through Bowden and Tuberville but Chizik is the guy who's watch it has all come to attention under. Looking back I'm glad they didn't hire Turner Gil for the job. Now the former CEO of Colonial Bank is Bobby Lowder who is on the Board of Trustees at Auburn, former coach Pat Dye is involved as is Milton McGregor who owns the casino involved in all of this. Apparently the casino was giving unmarked Colonial Bank cards to players and allowing them to use them to withdraw money from the casino. The FBI did wiretaps and found some insane stuff. Now all of this is hearsay so I can't vouch for it being 100% accurate but the wiretaps have implicated SEC pres Mike Silve as being in the know as well and is also going to be investigated by the FBI. They also say that the Auburn president wanted to sit Newton for the remainder of the season early one but Lowder overruled him. Supposedly Chizik was unaware of all these things going on as most of it was Lowder, Dye and somebody named Trouper who is the recruiting director. This is happening so fast that there is no way all of it can be true but if there is any ounce of truth to this I think the landscape of college football will change forever.
Bobby Lowder has been known for years as the man behind the curtain in Auburn. Don't be surprised if Colonial Bank paid off Newton's family. The SEC being behind Lowder stuff is shocking, however, and news to me. Might be where the story goes cold and not true. If not, fuckin' A..no telling what this means. It makes no sense though because Newton was already committed to Miss Stake, another SEC program as we all know, so there'd be no interest in the league to influence his signing to Auburn.
Mike if any of this is true we're talking about trustees being involved in major illegal activity, not just your average pay for player scandal. There are rumors of Auburn no longer being an accredited university which means much more then forfeiting some football games. It's not that I don't like Auburn because honestly I don't really dislike them at all but I hope all of it is true because I want to see them burn at the stake for all the other major programs the NCAA has been soft with when it comes to these types of things. You know as well as I do that La Costra War Eagle is going to squeal like a pig and bring down a bunch of other schools in the process. I just threw a bag of popcorn in the microwave because this is about to get good.
It's not so much Silve being involved as far as him pushing the buttons it's that he was aware and did nothing to stop it.
Interviewer: Are you 100% positive Cam Newton didn't take any money? Newton family attorney: I'm a million percent positive lol
