I gave him a "B"....because my only knock on Tanny is his love for trading away draft picks....i hope the rest of our 2010 draft stays intact. Other than that...i liked what he's done so far....he's excellent at managing the cap.
The draft picks he traded away got us Darrelle Revis, David Harris, Kris Jenkins, Mark Sanchez, Shonn Greene, Thomas Jones, Braylon Edwards, Dustin Keller, and Lito Sheppard, so I'm not too disappointed about that.
Tannebaum has done everything in his power to make this team as competitive as possible. I'm not a huge fan of how he has traded away picks, but you can't argue with the return we have gotten from that. Harris, Revis, Sanchez and Greene will be cornerstone players for us.
B... I love him but: A) Love his drafts but I still think he's a bit too aggressive... B) The contract he gives out are a bit too big...
It's hard to not give him a good grade, he does deliver the players, now the players are starting to deliver. Hopefully Rex and Tanny are here in harmonious, winning seasons for the next 20 years. (that would mean they are doing something right)
He's really amazing at managing the cap. We were supposed to have cap trouble last year, but somehow he was able to release some dead weight and restructure contracts. His manuveuring helped us get Scott and Leonhard, two key contributors to our amazing defense this year.
I don't dispute that....but our depth at some positions is severely "lacking".....we need an infusion of young talent in the worst way.
Agreed, we've got a good starter at almost every position, but depth is lacking. Hopefully the '10 draft will replenish some of that.
A. He built a team that made the playoffs with a rookie QB and a rookie head coach with our most important defensive player and (maybe?) our most important offensive player (and returner) out for most of the year. Extremely impressive. Certainly things aren't perfect, but he's closer to an A than a B, so that's what I gave him. Edit: As for this depth argument, the very fact that depth is our primary concern speaks to what a great job he did of building this franchise.
if i knew...beyond a shadow of a doubt....that Tanny was going to trade down and grab more picks....i'd bump his grade up to an "A".
assuming Gholston was indeed a Mangini power play, then his drafts are SICK. If you complain about depth and/or trading picks, think about the undrafted finds that have made the team or the fourth rounders who are stars. As far as the cap, how can you say he spends too much money if we are under the cap? To me, that means he spends just the right amount of money. I have to give him an A, assuming the Gholston Proviso.
B. We still aren't "there" yet but we're a lot closer then we were. I want to see how this draft goes. Does Tanny run it or give Rex the keys to the car? **And I don't penalize him for Gholston. He was the best player on the board and his combine numbers were great. He threw the #1 pick, Jake Long, around when they played which added to his "resume". Shit happens.
i gave him a c.when you factor in all the good stuff already posted + hiring mangini and drafting gholston it averages out.maybe a c+ to b-.
B. If Sanchez becomes a star, this quickly moves to an A. He did a great job, but he traded away a lot of draft picks. So the players (Sanchez and Greene) better be worth the trade up, just like Revis and Harris were...
