Houston deserves the chance after Blaylock's debacle today--He ran well last year and deserves the time. Barlow can spell him and so can Wasghington, but Blaylock was just ANOTHER Terry Bradway error. Kinda like a number 1 draft pick for Jolley+Nugent.

Washington can't pick up a blitz.

How can you say cut Blaylock ? We didn't run the ball well with any back in there.

You can't cut Blaylock based on one game in which the line also played a role in his lack of production. How big of a role the line played in his lack of prodcution is yet to be determined.

With that said, I would like to see much more of Cedric Houston next week. It seems like Blaylock isn't a good inside runner. He doesn't get those extra yards that Houston tends to get.

we ran alot better when Barlow was in the game...time after time blaylock was hesitant to hit a hole and would scoot side to side to find a big hole instead of hitting the hole hes supposed to...this caused him many times to get stuffed at the line because the Dline had time to penetrate, Barlow was running more with authority and bounced it outside much better for a bigger back. I dont say cut blaylock bu Barlow should be the featured and Houston should be active, Blaylock needs a week off to think about his performance today

I wouldn't want to cut Blaylock, but I'd rather see Barlow start and get the majority of the carries. I felt that way before today's game, and I thought Barlow played well given how poor the run blocking was.

To be honest, and I just thought of this now, I think Blaylock didn't got a lot of running today was because I am thinking this game today was to see how Chads shoulder is and how well he would do throwing the ball around.

I'm sure the running game will be used more next week.

I trust this is not a serious thread, and you are still basking in the joy of today's big win. Otherwise, you are showing very little football knowledge in this post.

We did? I didn't see it. Our "big" runs were only when we did that pitch play and ran outside.. regardless of the back.

Blaylock wasn't the problem in the running game today.

We ran the ball 34 times today and it was that commitment to the run which allowed Pennington's play action and ball faking to be effective enough to allow him the time to get the ball down field.

As far as the running game this coaching staff is committed to it and if Blaylock doesn't start hitting holes with some authority he is going to be on the bench. Barlow showed he has some speed and size and I expect once he earns the trust of the coaching staff he will be the starter.

Blaylock wasn't the problem but he's unwillingness to hit a seem or a hole with authority when the coaching staff is committed to the run game is going to get him serious bench time unless nobody else steps up. I expect Barlow to be starting by week 3.

Miller would have done shit with the Jets last year. He'd be declared a bust here and you'd have some sort of food label for him.

I agree, running the ball 34 times helped the passing game big time.

However, while if I had to pick between Barlow and Blaylock, I'd pick Barlow, neither was great today.

Wasn't it nice to running 69 plays? Both teams ran the same amount (expected, since Tennessee played catchup). We also had the rock for 34:02. When's the last time we did that!?

I have to admit I'm very skeptical of Shotty because of his pedigree but I really liked the play calling the formations the way the team was quickly up and set and the commitment to the run even though it wasn't generating yards, it was really impressive. You can't really distribute the ball any better than we did today. The game plan and the execution was outstanding.

I wouldn't worry about that. Look at Ted Williams and his son.

I give Schottenheimer/Mangini the utmost credit for analyzing their situation and utilizing the STRENGTHS of their players.

Simply put, the have one of the top 3 smartest QBs in the league. Yes, he has short comings (his arm strength some would say). Our old regime never used Pennington's strengths to the utmost. Hackett had a NO AUDIBLE system with one of the smartest QBs in the league. That's plain dumb.

In 1 game, what did we do? We called 2-3 plays and told Chad to call the one he likes based on what he sees! You have to play to your strengths, and that's Chad's strength.. intelligence.

The Oline didnt play that bad today. Barlow looked a lot better I wish he would of gotten more carries. Blaylock dances too much before hitting the hole.
