    Matsuzaka (13-10) vs Pettitte (11-7)

    Beckett (16-5) vs Clemens (5-5)

    Schilling (8-5) vs Wang (14-6)

    Sox have the pitching advantage in the first two games on paper, Yankees have it in the last. I honestly think if the Sox win 2 of 3 in this series the division is all but over. Should be a good series.

    Actually, I'd put Wakefield ahead of Schilling right now, but good matchups nonetheless.

    The way Pettitte has been pitching, I'd say the Yanks have a slight advantage in the first game. 3.69 ERA for Pettitte vs. 3.76 for Matsuzaka. (And it's 2.06 vs. 3.81 in August.)

    Dice-K has faced, TB, TB, Baltimore, and Seattle during that August span, while Pettitte has faced Detroit, LA, Cleveland, Toronto and the ChiSox.

    Should be a good series, though. The Yanks haven't had any problems knocking around TEH TREE ACES! of Boston.

    first game is a toss-up, second game is clear advantage Red Sox, third game is clear advantage Yankees.
    now we get to see how it actually turns out. yankees basically have to win the series if they want to stay in the AL East race

    Actually, I'd be fine with that too. That would mean the Sox would still have at LEAST a 6 game lead after the series, depending on today's Yankee game it could be 7. Even if they get swept, they would still have the biggest lead in the AL, second biggest in baseball.

    The division is over.

    You're joking, right? Even though you got the best possible individual match-ups,

    Matsuzaka = Pettitte

    Beckett >>>> Clemens

    Schilling < Wang

    Boston Bullpen > Yankee Bullpen

    Jesus Christ, Matsuzaka's getting squeezed big time. I've counted five pitches already that were strikes where the ump got the call wrong.
